DS Dpad damage :(

My DS dpad has started acting up.
When I press 'up', the microswitch is making loads of unpleasant metallic scraping noises.

Don't fancy taking it apart as it's probably a bit more complex in there then my old GP32's (god rest their silly Korean souls)

Anyone else have bother like this?

I know it's an obvious suggestion but have you contacted Nintendo of Europe's technical support to see if they do a repair/replacement service?, they must have one as I'd say you're still in warranty considering the machine itself has only been out a year. What it sounds like to me is the top part of the D-Pad has become unstuck from its mount on the motherboard and is now scratching the surface of the PCB, hence the noise you hear when you press up..
