    Hi

I have booked two weeks in Port El Kantoui in August.
    Has anyone been here before?

    Cheers,
    Kifi

Been there a few years ago for very relaxing holiday. We stayed in iirc Hotel Marhaba Imperial. Very nice 5 star a little way out from the port maybe 3 minutes in taxi. We really enjoyed ourselves but we did hear some Irish people complaining about other hotels. You definitely know you are in a foregin country but you don't get the full north african experience either e.g. Morocco. If you go there take a tuk tuk and of course the noddy train. The local beer is drinkable but there is at least one German brew pub selling their own very good beer. Recommend for relaxing not partying.

Spent a fortnight in Port El Kantoui a few years ago. Obviously in August it's going to be absolutely baking hot so be prepared. If you can you should try and take a trip down to Sfax where they have one of the oldest colluseums in the world and then further south to the edge of the Sahara where you can see where Star Wars was made!! Matmata and a visit to the troglodytes is also worth a gander. A long arduous journey but definitley worth it as the contrast even a kms out of the resorts is astounding. Lots of straw huts and freshly slaughtered sheep hanging up on the side of the dust roads.....not very appetizing in 45 degree heat.

As C Fodder said though Port El Kantoui itself is very much for R & R. Lots to do, great for watersports and the souks are good fun.

Choose carefully where you eat though. Although developing at a reasonable rate, the hygiene standards still leave a lot to be desired so it's good to be aware of that.

    Have a lovely time

Another worthwhile coach trip is up to Tunis(the capital), and the Roman ruins in Carthage(a suburb of Tunis). You get some time to do your own thing in the city(I went up through the souk - amazing sights&smells). The run up to Tunis takes about 2 hours.

Some of the beer for sale (outside of the main hotels) is non alcoholic but they don't tell you that!

one of the nicest hols I've ever had. I was in sousse and all the tourists went on about how port el kantouie was way better. Very relaxing, lovely people (if a bit clingy at times) lovely weather, very cheap - be sure and do that 2 day sahara trip - You'll see the country, do tonnes of stuff, go camel riding in the desert etc. Well worth the long bus journey - defo the highlight of my 2 weeks there.
