lawyer ignoring clients instructions

    Hypotheitical situation: Can a lawyer simply ignore a clients written instructions? Say if a client gave the lawyer instructions to sue someone and he simply ingored them, would there be any sanction against him?

    He can decline to act for the person of course. Otherwise, if you are talking about delay, if the person's case is not damaged, there's probably little one can do other then complain. If, through delay, a case became Statute barred for example, then a cause of action could arise against the lawyer.
