    I need a little help my DVD burner seems to be running very slow, for example i was burning a 'large file' which should take about 25-30 minutes yet after 45 minutes it was still only 25% done. The burner is a 4X, but i only get an 8x option when i try to burn with nero

    Got a 1.7G cpu with 1G Ram, not other processes running.

    Any suggestions?

    What make & model DVD burner is it ?

    If your are not sure use Nero InfoTool to find out.

    A common reason for slow burns are;
    Dying DVDRW drive.
    Crappy media.
    Unsupported media.
    Media with a fake ID code.
    IDE Driver interference.
    Dodgy IDE cable
    DMA turned off.

    The fact that Nero says it can only burn this media at 8x and you have a 4x burner would suggest to me that this media might not be supported by your writer. In case your wondering all DVD media have an ID code which is stored in the firmware of the DVD writer this tells the DVD writer what speed it can burn the media at, no ID code can often mean problems.

    Often manufacturer's update the firmware the DVDRW drive to support new media and update the ID code table but this only lasts so long and if this is an old drive then your best bet would be to update the firmware.
