CCNA exam

OK I have done the ccna exam twice now, failed on both occasions, first I got 69% then 75% ---- pass score is 85%,

I don't have a problem with the multiple choice or drag and drop questions and feel verly confident about those questions however on both exams I have failed both of the simulation questions. I read somewhere that if you fail 1 you are in trouble but if you fail 2 simulations you will fail the exam.

I have the Boson simulation software and have also used www.celticrover.com as well.

Basically my question here is does anyone know of any really good simulation software that mimmicks the 1 on the actual exam , I have seen a few simulation questions out there but tbh they look nothing like the 1 in the actual exam, I would like simulation software that looks like the 1 on the exam:mad:

Also has any1 done the ccna exam before and passed it, what did you think of the simulation and what was the problem on the simulation question.?

    Cheers :D

Gee there as bad as the microsoft exam so then, are all these exams worth it Its hard to beat hand on experience and a few years than a bit of paper, But I know the paper is the ticket to the money or the interview

    Cisco make broadband work! :D

I passed the CCNA with 93% last year - but I failed it the first time with 84%. You have to go into the exam feeling like you're going to get 100% or you WILL fail.

I didn't have a problem with the sim questions in particular, but that's probably because I work with the routers in real life. I found learning all the ISDN letters waaaaay harder. The only thing you have to look out for is that they always make the sims a trick question too, otherwise they'd be too easy since you can see all the commands available for the device, so look hard for a reason why the obvious answer is wrong, because it is.

I tried a few of the different practice exam programs on the internet, and they were all terrible without exception. The best by far is Cisco's own progam that comes on the CD you get with the CCNA ICND book (http://www.ciscopress.com/bookstore/product.asp?isbn=1587200953&rl=1) - The software is Boson's but I think the content is Cisco's. At least most of the answers given to those practice questions were actually correct...

You might wanna try doing it over two exams rather than one as the simulation in the ICND section is far easier.

I got a RIP sim which was pretty easy and my nerves were shot I don't mind tellin' ya.

I passed it first time but repeated failures are not uncommon. I worked pretty hard for it though.

I recommend the Cisco Networking Academy material if you can get your hands on it.

I have it somewhere so if ya wanna pm me we could sort something out.

The people that usually have problems with the simulation q's are people who don't work with the technology day to day.

Boson software is probably the best there is, I'm not sure what to recomend, have you much real world exp with cisco?

Best suggestion, go to ebay and spend a few quid on some routers and cabling... I picked up 2 cisco 1600's, a 2502 and the cabling for next to nothing... Not as good as actual work experience but at least its something... Just my two cents anyways... Good luck with it though...

Thx for the info guys, since I already have the boson software I think i'm going to go with GFORCES advice and try the ccna exam as 2 separate 1's instead of 1 hard exam,
Hope ur right about the sims being easier when they're split into 2 exams, that's the only prob I am having is these simulation so i'll give it a go with the 2 exams split, thx gforce

thnx for the replies guys :D

    Deadbeet,

I have a router if you think borrowing one would help. Its 1750 (Afik).

I would be interested if you wouldnt mind droping me a pm on how you get with the 2 seperate exams.

Also have the Cisco Press books if your based in Galway

The Boson Netsim is excellent imho. I did mine in January as the 2 separate exams a few weeks apart. I don't work with Cisco hardware, in fact have never actually touched one of their devices, but hit the sims and the operation sections of the Cisco Press books pretty hard, came out with 96% and 100% for implementation (98% and 89% for the Intro and ICND collectively). Do the sequential lab sims the first time by the book and after that try and do it yourself a few times, when you can run through that section on your own you will be more than ready to handle anything the exam throws at you.

There's actually no sim on the first exam and only one on the ICND and it is definitely easier.
    Anyway, best of luck.
