    This will Mess With Your Head.

    3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO
    EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

    A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO
    HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

    ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY
    BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR
    HIMSELF.

    THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF
    $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

    WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

    WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

    Well look at it this way : Another way of thinking about it is "What does each person have in thier pocket at this minute?"
     25 = Man at desk
      1 = Man#1
      1 = Man#2
      1 = Man#3
    + 2 = Bellboy
    =============
     30  = Total

    So there you go. No missing dollar. I hate the stupidity of this 'classic' puzzle so much that I just felt like ruining it for everyone :mad:

    this doesn't explain anything. anyone can do that. explain then how the last statement:
    THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF
    $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

    is wrong?????

    Its wrong because it has no meaning.

    In reality the three men paid 9 each, which is 27, then subtract the 2 the bellboy kept leaves 25, which is what was actually paid.

    The 3 men didnt pay 27 dollars for te room between them, they paid 25/3 = 8.3333

    The 9*3 is totally misleading

    yep

    Its all a convolution of mathematics, its quite simple really. Consider this:

    10 + 10 + 10 = 30

    3 x 9 = 27

    The assumption that the me each paid 9 is incorrect, they paid 10, and were refunded. Which changes the mathematics of the solution.

    25 divided by 3 equals 8.33333333333(etc)

    if you multiply the 0.33333333333(etc) by 3, you get 0.999999999(etc), or, if you round it off, the missing dollar.

    The trick is that most people just ignore the 0.3 bit, as it makes the sum "complex", but, as its left out, you then can't account for it being missing.

    It's 'wrong' because the €2 that the Bellboy kept is not a seperate entity at this point. It is actually part of the the €27 that was paid out by the 3 guys.

    Thats wrong on a whole new level...if you're using euros now we'll have to start converting! :eek:

    Yes that is odd. Didn't mean that! Was doing a bit of currency work today and I think I have '€'s on the brain atm. :)

    The E8.3333 is crap. Each man paid E10 and was refunded E1. This is the actual answer:

    Each man paid €10....got €1 back meaning they paid €9 each (€27 in total)
    The bellboy took €2 and the man behind the desk got €25....total = €27

    €30

    Where's the money?

    Bell desk €25
    3 lads on a dirty weekend €3
    Thieving Bellboy €2
    Balance €30 (no money missing)

    The trick?

    The lads didn't pay €9 each (€27), they paid €25 in total, so they paid €8.33 each (25/3)...where's the miscalculation?

    The equation (subtraction or multiplication) accounts for the €3 refund, but dosen't account for €2 that was removed by the bell boy...who'll probably spend it on a hooker or to feed his rampent drug addiction. (Basicly just changings the figures in two completely different equations and linking them togehter in a story)

    Fuc*ing with people's heads: Priceless

    9 beans per night isn't bad, that's cheaper than my rent. Where is this "motel", and it isn't owned by a N. Bates is it?

    WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

    There is no other dollar
    25+3+2 = 30
    if you're doing it in reverse, it's 27 MINUS the two the bellboy kept which is 25 which is what the hotel got.
    Subtract, not add.
    If you want to look at it from the 27 point of view, anyway, which is a bit off

    each man paid 10 but got one back so they paid 9 total.
    3*9=27.
    this is what they paid total. 2 went to the bell boy and 25 to the manager.
    2+25=27.

    what the riddle says is meaningless. its just to throw people off

    basically the riddle's saying that if you pay 100 euro for a room and give the bell boy a 2 euro tip, you have somehow magically paid 98 euro total, when in fact you have paid 102
