What are peoples opinions on this substance?

Have they ever experienced long term or short term side effects?

i'd personally avoid it unless i really needed to use it. There are alternatives that are far safer, and due to its recent banning, safety with self-dosage is a big issue.

Yes it has been banned, but there are products with Ma Huang in it, which is the same as Ephedrine - Inferno for example. How can this stuff be still on sale?
    Or am I missing something?

Ephedra is a plant from which both Ma Huang and Ephedrine are derived. Ma Huang is a Chinese herb thats been used for ages as a natural remedy, but was found to also increase the body's thermogenesis, or burning of fat. Ephedrine HCL and ephedrine sulfate are compounds manufactured in a lab, and utilises only a certain part of the Ephedra plant. They're used as topical decongestants and bronchodilators. pseudo-ephedrine is another comound found in otc decongestants. All have thermogenic effects. The FDA banned ephedrine alkaloid containing compounds because of their link with a number of deaths and there's a huge number of side-effects reported with their use, including heart rhythm irregularities, flushing, sweating, vomiting, urine retention, aggression, anxiety, restlesness... I know of a numebr of people who've tried ECA and hated it because of the side-effects, they just didn't think it was worth it.

There's loads of ephedra free thermogenics out there, none of which are a better substitute for a good diet of course ;)

So is ephedrine and Ma Huang the same thing?
    Thanks for the answer!

no, ephedrine is a synthesised compound, ma huang is 'natural'. As ma huang is used as a constituent of herbal teas and natural remedies it sits under the 'conventional food' label by the FDA and is therefore not banned. But its actually quite difficult to get 'real' ma huang as its a plant whose growth is generally restricted to Asia and there's a lot of imitation ma huang comounds out there.

Neither of them are drugs to be taken lightly and you should be fully aware of any contraindications or risks that you may pose yourself through pre-existing conditions before you even attempt to get hold of them.

Inferno claims to have Ma Huang in it. What would be your opinion on this?

who makes it? can't say I know it. But like I said, and I'm not being funny, a supplement is just that- it aids your diet. If your diet is sh**e, no amount of thermogenics will help you.

no worries. I have heard good things about Biotest products, you may want to check them out. And drink loads of green tea, a natural metabolism booster and a great way to keep your water intake up.

Ive tried a few different thermogenic products some banned and some not banned and i got some side effects with them all
    eg.

ECA's: Shakes and headaches but they subsided after a while also got loads of energy,

Hydroxycut: Again shakes (worse than the above) didnt get the headaches but i did get horrible insomnia and constant sweating with loads of energy,

Clenbuterol: well a mate just started these, he loves them he has cut up great on them brought his abs out nicely, he recons he only got the shakes for about 3 days otherwise he recons they were slightly anabolic and even gave him more energy during workouts,

I would just recommend u adjust youre diet as that seem to work best for mefor long term goals, as when i used the ECA's and Hydroxycut they weight came off quick but it came back on soon after i stopped taking them because i wasnt burning as much calories when off them ive also found adding an extra bit of cardio to your weekly exercise regime to work also,

about Ma huang if you go into the chinese therapy centres they will sell you it but ive heard of them questioning people about what they want to use it for and its not really that potnet in tea form as there is not a great concentration of alkaloids in the plant as there is in ephedra as that its isolated in a lab and you would ahve to drink a few litres of the tea to have the same effect as the tablet

I built an ECA stack on aspirin, caffeine and ephedrine from do-do cheesteze (which you can get in any UK pharmacy). It gave me a bit of the jitters but I didn't lose any extra weight (however since I've alrady lost 5 stone in about a year I think I've already reached rock bottom).

The only thing I noticed was that its the best decongestant I've ever taken. I don't bother with the ECA stack now but I occasionally take it as a decongestant as its great clearing a bad chest.

Just because something is not OTC does not indicate it is unsafe and vice versa. I've never seen a death attributed to ephedrine, much as the FDA would have you believe. (They claim that American footballer who was +300lbs, training in over 100 degrees heat who was dehydrated died from it - I can't see how else he could have died  )

On the other hand you have people popping painkillers like they're sweets and ruining their stomach lining, kidneys and possibly more. In fact oding on painkillers, as we know, is a popular form of suicide yet they are readily available.

My views on ephedrine are that it should be cycled so as not to become dependent on it and to keep the body's tolerance low. You should never really go over 4 x 30mg doses per day (fat asses in the states were taking 16+ a day). Take it with carbs or pre exercise and don't take it within 6 hours of bedtime.

The biggest problem I note with thermogenic stimulants is that people begin to use them for fat loss and then use them for a preworkout kick and this soon degrades to having to take a few ephedrine to be able to workout. I'm dependent on caffeine as it is to get me through the day, but noone should have to take a drug or supplement to workout.

Good diet + cardio + thermogenics = consistently losing 2lbs bf per week. Good diet and cardio = 75% of this. 1/2lb of fat though is still a lot (+2000kcals) and the energy it provides can be handy, though I find I have more energy dieting!
