I've been meaning to ask this for ages.
I know Paddy Power Bookmakers is owned by Stewart Kenny.
However, the public face of Paddy Power in recent years
is a chap called Paddy Power. Is he a relation of the original
founder of the company or is it just a happy coincidence
    that that's his name ?

I seem to remember him coming on to Gerry Ryan show or
some other daytime radio programme and explaining it
at one stage but my memory is fading. I also saw him
on that "no experience required" reality show recently
    on RTE.

I'm guessing someone on this forum is more likely to
know the answer more than the other boards forums
since there must be a few betting types here for sure ;)

I'd imagine his name is the only reason he got the job.

    Amusing (if acerbic) answer :)

In reality is he part of a dynasty or is it just a happy coincidence that
the guy in charge of operations has same name as the business ?

Was there ever a Paddy Power (senior) or is it a makey uppey name
like Ronald McDonald or maybe it was a buyout which happened
ages ago in the history of that famous bookmakers.

Just hungry for some trivia, I guess !

I'd say its not his real name and I don't think there was an original owner called it either.

Thats interesting, because there was a Richard Power bookie at fairyhouse yesterday and I wondered if it was part of the same family.

This article has a little bit of history:

Paddy power as you know him is just a happy coincidence, that man is called patrick power he is the head of marketing or something to that degree. The name Paddy Power was used as the founders of the company wanted a name that was really irish, and so they named it after the two biggest whiskeys in ireland Paddy's and Power's.
