Walking with weights Vs. Jogging?

I have suffered shin pains from jogging and do not like the idea of impact excercises. How does walking fairly fast with weights compare to jogging, calorie wise, and cardio wise. I am about 80kg, if I was to walk at a fast pace with say 10kg in a back pack for an hour, how would that compare to jogging for an hour?

I expect I would be better having 2 bags, one on the front "spanish student style" so the wieght is more balanced.

unless the weight is very well balanced, it can be very bad for you.
why not do some jogging on grass?

Grass or sand if there is a park or beach near you. Also I'm testing out those gel chusion heel pads at the moment. I do a lot of long distance running on roads and they seem to help with the impact. However, I've only started using them, so the jury is out at the moment. One of my mates runs regularly with 20kg on his back, when I spoken to him about it his advice was just to make sure that the the weights, he uses bags of sugar, do not move around in the bag, and to make sure that the straps are firmly tied, to stop the bag moving. Hope this helps

Cheers. I have been searching and many recommend against it. It may be as bad for the joints anyway! I wouldnt fancy running with weights. I cycle a lot but it can be hard to get a nonstop run. I just notice walking back from the shops with lots of stuff still has me knackered even though I am now reasonably fit (well fitter than I was), I always walk fairly fast.

It might not be a bad idea but in my opinion it looks silly. Especially if you are one of those flabby oul wans in their mid40s wearing a pink tracksuit.
