Or does anyone else find it hard to get healthy foods from supermarkets? Ive recently decided to change my diet and in many of the recipies I have gotten the ingridients seem to be really hard to find. Or am I just shopping in the wrong stores?

Also does anyone know where to get fruit in bulk (Dublin/Kildare area) at a reasonable price?

It is to a certain extent. I've found from trial and error that most of my shopping has to be broken up and I buy different things from different places. Thankfully my local Tesco has a decent butchers' so I can get a lot of the meat there, but there's an organic butcher down the road from me when I'm feeling flush!! I get most of my fruit and veg from a farmers' market at the weekend, and the cupboard stables can be bought from any supermarket.

I think getting good meat and veg should be high on the priority list, and find a decent health food shop to get your oils and natural nut spreads etc. My shopping list has gotten much smaller since I sorted out the 'real' health food from 'convenience' health food- still just as expensive with all the fresh food, but well worth it... I fully intend to become good friends with the local stalls in the market again, they're great for telling you what's in season, what are the best bargains and will soemtimes hold aside stuff for you when they're expecting you (winter is so officially over now, its high time my comfort eating stops :o )

You can eat extremely well without having to work from incredibly difficult recipes- tbh most of my meals are ten minute wonders, when I come in from work the last thing I want to do is slave over the cooker, so the simpler the better. What kind of recipes did you have in mind?

I tend not to eat bread any more, only very sporadically (including the white French loaf I munched on over the weekend- its been a serious spoil myself few days, the shopping bags were full to the brim of clean food today :o ). If I ever eat bread its usually McCamrbidge's stoneground bread. As a general rule, check the label- make sure the bread has no hydorgenated fat which extends its shelf-life but is a horific type of fat to have in your diet, and the more nuts/ grains/ seeds it has the better, as it'll slow down digestion and leave you fuller longer.

Instead of bread I use brown rice or bulgar wheat to make my lunch, or sometimes wholemeal pitta if I'm being really lazy and bung it full of salad and tuna

Pitta a good enough replacement for bread in a sambo? Never tried it.

its much of a muchesness tbh. i just find them really convenient to make sanwiches in, and they don't make me bloated (as long as they're wholemea). Their nutritional constiuents tend to be very similar, and the differences are negligible. plus pitta don't go as soggy with tomatoes in them :p they're not an everyday food, but i find them handy to have around. plus they're great for dipping in hummus or toasting and putting peanut butter on if you want a carby snack.
