been ignoring this problem for ages now but now its just getting worrying.

Every since i can remember ive had a really tight foreskin, ice had checkups done, and the doc's pulled it down, said it was tight and would fix itself.

couple of years later (15 now) still the same really tight.

when its hard it takes A LOT of effort to pull down, and when u try to pull it back up, it realllly hurts.

    what can i do?

    The Dump, cop on.

You could try stretching it gradually and see where that goes. Try it during a warm bath.

There are creams you can get from your doctor or if necessary they can do minor surgery (maybe only a day in hospital) to loosen things up.

I think The Dump was suggesting circumcision (removing part or all of the foreskin) would be the first action.

The reference to "cut" probably refers to partial circumcision where the foreskin is adjusted as opposed to removed completely, although it can also mean full circumcision.

could i do it wihout telling my parents? or would the doctor tell them

Masturbate more often, I'm sure it will become looser with more persuasion :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,579 ✭✭✭✭Victor

Yes, you would need parental consent. If that makes you feel awkward, perhaps discuss it with someone else first - the doctor, school counsellor, aunt / uncle.

PS Can you use the same user name each time?

i had the same problem, no matter how hard i tried the foreskin wouldnt come down over the head, which was red and very sensative to touch, more masturbation works, pulling down slightly each time,, next year youll be brand new,,,,

i can hit mine with a spackle hammer now and i dont feel a thing,,

This could be a good thing man,it might mean you have a "very big head"
you might keep a lot of women happy!

this is quite a regular occurance. often, the only solution is to see a doctor for very minor surgery. it's probably best to get this done now, as in a few years time, you'll want that thing working properly!

It might become looser with puberty. I couldn't pull my foreskin too far back without it hurting until I was 16 or 17. Now its no bother at all, I can pull it back without any discomfort. This is a bit graphic, give your foreskin a proper cleanout because if you don't pull it back and wash off the crusty bits of semen it could be causing the restriction of pulling back the foreksin. I'd advise going to your doctor if its still tight when you're 17, because the last thing you want is when you actually have sex that you accidentally circumcise yourself, it happened to friend of mine who had a really tight foreskin.

I think you can consent to your own medical treatment once you're 16. You could wait till then if you wanted.

I had the same problem and I left it for ages, thought it would fix itself, but it didn't.

Best thing is to get a circumcision, believe me it's very simple and surprisingly painless. It's done as day surgery so you don't have to stay in hospital ovenight. Go see your doctor and talk to him about it.

    You won't look back.

Well knock me down! This is all kinda new to me. I have this condition, and I'm 21!
Well, when I say new...I've often suspected there's something strange about mine, but sure I've nothing to compare it to so why would I know any different? :):o

When standing to attention, the skin does not peel back as it should - the thread part connecting it to the head seems to be too short.
I've never checked any of this out before because of how extraordinarily sensitive the head underneath is - so much so that I've generally just assumed that this is meant to be covered given how sensitive it is! Is this level normal? I suspect it isn't, as having it completely exposed like most people, being so sensitive would be wholly impractical if nothing else! And when I say sensitive, if the head so much as gets tipped by something I literally hit the roof. However it could be just the small red raised area in the middle of the head, the hole, that is sensitive. It's always been too unbearable to even contemplate, let alone investigate which it is!
Anyone else suffer the same level of discomfort? - to the extent that walking when 'fully extended' is nearly an impossibility if it's not in a certain position in underwear?

I'm guessing the stretching option is a bit late now - or is it? Does that thread part stretch? - can't find much on the internet about that. And would the sensitivity (if any, as it could just be the thread part pressing on the head) reduce with increased exposure I wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

    'enlightened'...

that's how mine was. it's only that sensitive because it's never really been exposed. If you get circumsised, it loses it's sensitivity very quickly. It's not normal for it to be that tight, it should peel back when you get a hard-on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Just read your message and wanted to let you know that you need not worry! I had the same problem it was very painfull to pull back the foreskin and once I did it was stuck back for days and very sore! What I did was get into a hot bath and pull the forskin back, leave it there and then push it back over! Make sure you do this while NOT erect! Once you you keep doing it you will be fine. It just needs to be stretched. If this does not work I would go to a doctor and see if it a problem. Perhaps you could mention it to your dad or big brother??

Anyway All in all I would not worry about it too much as long as you try and stretch it. it will take time.

Mine is quite painful after I pull the foreskin back. It is quite sensitive. Will this go away after time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Been there: with you, what was causing it to be so tight? To be specific about things, was it the size of the hole of the foreskin that was problematic, or the thread part that attaches itself to the head/glans that was too short?
And what of sensitivity issues, if any?
    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I also have this problem. With me it's not a tight foreskin. The bit that attaches the foreskin to the rest of the penis (the banjo string is the only thing I know it as) isn't long enough so my foreskin only comes down naturally so far. I can pull it down further but it feels tight around the banjo string area, and does not glide back and forth with any ease. If I stretch it for a bit it feels alright. However strangely enough if I pull the foreskin back and then get an erection it feels totally normal although still doesn't glide back and forth normally, but is slightly better. I'm guessing stretching won't help this.

had the same problem (bit between foreskin & head too short) although didnt realise it until I started fooling around with 1st girlfriend. A few times she was giving me a handjob & broke it causing it to bleed (basically tore it) I reckon it happened 3 or 4 times and then after that I guess it healed longer cos it never happened again. She went on to become a hand job champion though so all good :)

yeah im about 17 and i have the same problem, really wouldnt want my foreskin to rip! i think ill go see my gp and see what the story is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

So how did it repair itself then Unreg if it was broken? Or did you just tear it a bit with the two pieces still joined?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 foas

this seems to be a common occurance.
i'm having a similar problem. the frenulum (stringy part connecting head to foreskin) is too short. i'm able to pull the foreskin back when erect but not that much, just over the head. its not back as much as it could go, the short frenulum is stopping it.

i stumbled over this on a search in yahoo

    http://ideas.uqam.ca/~dsexo/english/9806e/qa0125-1821p.htm

could be interesting, apparently we dont need to get circumcised, just a small procedure done that LENGTHENS the frenulum allowing the foreskin to move freely. takes bout 2 or 3 weeks to recover. [edited]

also check out this site, very good FAQ on it.

    http://www.geocities.com/circfaq/

one question though, would you just go to your regular doctor about this, or what? i cant exactly afford to go to my regular doctor. so do you think it'd be ok if i went to my college's health center and asked to speak to the doctor there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I don't see why you can't give it a try at least. At least you're willing to go!
    Thanks for the links.
So does anyone know of any good sites explaining these 'stretching exercises'? There's some vague ones out there, but I could do with more detail...

    no problem.

yeh i figure i should really get it out of the way. its kinda bugging me. plus i dont exactly want it to rip during sex, it felt like it was gonna before but it didnt.

as for the exercises, i've been reading up on them too. apparently theyre ok for the short term. but it can go back to the way it was before. plus i dont fancy tugging on it to the point of pain every day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

the head of mine seems to be too big , it just bulges out , skin would def rip if i pulled it back what should i do ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43,045 ✭✭✭✭Nevyn

Go talk to your Dr about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

i have the same problem as most. can get the skin over the head if I get it 'sucked' by my girlfriend first but it kills spontaneous sex. Like I always have to have it moistened. Thinking of getting surgery to put an end to this. I think the stretching is a short-term solution. If I got it done, how long does it take to be back on my feet and walking normally(ish)?

Apologies for the coarseness of the language.

i mean circumcicision of course. ^^^

Try the hot bath thing. I think that a lot of the time boys are not told to clean regularly under the foreskin. When I was younger I was worried about mine not pulling back far enough (damn porn movies!!!-its not like that in real life!!!) however I found that once I had cleaned under the foreskin regularly it moved A LOT easier. What happens is that dead skin cells mix with the bodies natural oils to produce SMEGMA (cheesey like substance) that builds up under the foreskin. Add to this dried semen (boys will be boys) and BAM!!! no wonder it is hard for the foreskin to roll back.

The hot bath method that others have suggested is the best way forward. Sit in the bath, peel back slowly, clean it with your fingers, it will be very sensitive when you first do this, so go slowly. Clean under it during every shower or bath and after a few cleans it should move easier. If not then circumcision is the way to go. Dont worry about it, its straight forward and simple and makes your Penis look bigger too :)
Hopefully though cleaning it should make a difference, it will save you the hassle of getting circumcised, and thats all it would be: a hassle.

All those guys saying that they need it to be lubricated......of course you do!!! Thats why there are oils and stuff on the market. One word: FOREPLAY. Thats when you get ready and lubbed up. Its the same with girls, they need foreplay to "prepare" themselves down below. You cannot just jump straight into it. Dont try and pull back when you are erect and dry, it will hurt.......

When I was your age I was wondering the same thing. Cannot remember if it was very painful but it most deffiinitely did not roll back as far as I thought it should.

Even at the ripe old age of (late 20's!!) it still does not roll ALL the way back (like it seems to do in porn movies) but I can have sex (penerative and oral) with my girl friend and there are no problems. Each persons body is different so dont worry if you seem slightly different and dont rely on porn for sex education!!!

streaching your foreskin/frenulum is a permenat soloution. As you will be pulling the skin back everytime you go to the toilet/get an erection. As for the soreness. It because its not been exposed before. once this is done right, it will settle down after a week or two. also needs to be cleaned out properly.

Thats an unfounded statement. It does not in anyway do this. What it does do, is cause the skin to harden and 2 more layers of skin to grow on the penis for protection. But you will lose sensation during sex because of this. Also why do you think there are "ribbed" condoms. They are to simulate the foreskin when pulled back fully. As it addes extra pleasure/sensation for the woman.

Just so people know, there are NO proven benafits to being circumcised. What is knowen is that foreskin is there to protect the head of penis from damage/infection. Why do you think it is there in the first place?

Of course it is hence the smiley after it. Yes it does harden the head and lead to a loss in sensation but hey!!! you can go longer and make sure the girl gets there :)

Thanks for you comments sutty - most encouraging.
For me, it's difficult to get out of the mindset of actually exposing it, after trying to cover up what is a very sensitive head for a decade at this stage! I tried peeling it back in the bath there recently, and got further than I thought for a first time, but can still see it taking many months of stretching all the same! And the sensitivity also reduces in the bath which is good, but outside of it I can see it being difficult.

To be uncomfortably detailed about things, is the 'hole' in the head supposed to be red rather than pink, and slightly raised from the head around it? Just with circumcised 'models' it seems the hole is inverted, i.e. the other way round...

You'd think I was 12 with these questions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

mine shows no sign of wanting to be pulled back. ive got a big head on mine.
like it causes little or no problems with sex. unless we're only using the pill and not condoms. then its very important that all is lubed. but that happens naturally after time. there was a few times when it got pulled back over the head and it wasnt pleasant but i just had to stop and re-adjust.
    everyones different.
    peace.

This is called phimosis. Google it. Most sites will say that surgery should be the last option. The preferred option is to get a corticosteriod cream (you can get it in boots without prescription, just tell them you have inflammation). Use it very sparingly on the foreskin before you go to sleep. Make sure not to get any on your helmet. Then in teh morning try gently stretching your foreskin back. Do it a little further every morning.

Teh corticosteroid works by thinning the skin, making it easier to stretch, so do not use it for more than two weeks. This is the absolute max time you should use it. I generally used it for a week, then left it for say a month or more before using it again.

At the start, i was unable to pull back my foreskin, even when i wasn't hard. You lose out on a lot by getting circumcised, but google the term phimosis, read all the info and decide for yourself.

I am definetly glad i used this method.

ive the same problem. im 21 have had sex since i was about 18 but i never really noticed my foreskin as a problem. when im showering etc i can pull it all the way back when im "limp" but when im "erect" i cant. it wont even retract 5mm...

if i go to the doctor's and ask for a "cut" will they do it? or will they reccommend a cream etc? because to be honest id rather just get the chop and save all the hassle...

but will they do it on request?

and will it be classed as in-patient or out-patient when its carried out?
i only ask as i dont think i could afford a large medical bill over something like this.

That sounds awfully like medical advice. And seeing as people really like hanging on to their willies (in different ways), I suggest people talk to their doctor first before doing something like this.

Speak for yourself! I had my son circumcised when he was two and a half and it was neither simple nor painless. The poor child couldn't sit down for about 4 weeks and wouldn't wear anything on his bottom half for six (and the younger the male the quicker the recovery is supposed to be!) The resulting look of his penis after the circumcision is dreadful... I wish I'd done more research before taking the doctor's word that he needed it done. I know if I was a girl I would run a mile from it.:( My father-in-law was circumcised at the age of sixty and I know he didn't have an easy time of it at all either.

If you do decide to go for this option make sure you find out exactly what they intend to do to you... partial circumcision or full and how much of the foreskin they will leave and where they intend to stitch it back to. Don't just leave it up to them... educate yourself and have some say in it.
