Back Biking, weird indicator issue

I rejoined the biking world today after purchasing a fairly nice '90 Honda Bros. She's not pristine but a good runner none the less.

There is one strange thing though. All four indicators are always constantly lit! They will flash in the correct way when i am turning though so that is ok.

The guy i was buying from said that this was because it was an import. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix this or have you come accross anything like this before?

Why do you want to fix it? As the seller said it's cause the bike is an import and I think it looks good to have the indicators on all the time. Also it makes you more visable to other road user, therefore making it slightly safer.

Why did you not believe the seller about the lights and buy the bike anyway??

Thanks for your reply. I fully believe the seller, no problem there, and I dont mind the indicators myself but I thought that it might not be road legal so I am interested to hear some other views.

My main worry is if some other road user got confused.

Thats OK, they are legal. There are loads of bikes with them. Also you are allowed to show white or yellow lights to the front. Here is the section from Oasis about bike indicators

    http://www.oasis.gov.ie/transport/motoring/lighting_of_motorcycles_in_ireland.html
Direction indicators and high mounted stamp lamp (this is optional): A direction indicator is a device fitted to a motorcycle that is capable of indicating to the other road users that the driver intends to turn right or left. Indicators must be either semaphore or flashing.

    its easy to fix.

if you lift off the seat youll see the rear indcicator connection.

theres 2 wires from each indicator and 3 [6 in total] on the bike.
switch the wire into the 3rd [empty] wire slot and the inicators will switch off.

same deal for the front 'cept the wiring is behind the headlight :)

I can verify that this works. I did the same for my Honda Hornet import.

cool, thanks for the info! Only thing left to sort out now is the foot brake switch. It doesn't activate the brake lights in the way the front brake does, probably a 2 euro part.

Might just be an adjustment? I think n the er-5 you can adjust when the pedal activates the switch. Check it out?

I sorted it out today. I found the switch and it was already at the maximum of its adjustment so i used a washer and hey presto! The spring must have stretched a bit. Thanks.

Personally, I would leave the indicators as they are. An old bike of mine had that jap/us style of all indicators lit and it just makes you more visable really. You have a wider lit profile so less chance of being not seen by a careless driver etc.
