I think considering the guy was attacked and beaten up last night that thats a bit harsh.

What a world we live in.

Guy gets a few slaps in front of his girlfriend for using bad language when there was obviously no need for it then his girlfriend watches him running off like a little wuss, guards get called, a blog entry is made, logs on to boards and the whole of Ireland starts to discuss.

What is happening to this country, grow a pair of balls kid.

Thats ghey, but its nothing new. I tend to be a bit unsociable, which stems from this kind of sh!te. I mean i spent two years in my room smokin hash and never moving outside cuz someone was "after" me.

Scumbags dont get **** done to them because of "summer camp" prisons and juvies. They come out and sell more pills, rob more cars, break more public order offenses and assault more "targets".

Its just a way of getting the upper hand, feeling power and being the great lad in front of all the boys.

Most deserve (morally) to be erradicated, and any questions asked as to their whereabouts be ignored.

I know its hard but you probably should have just ignored him unless he got more violent with that sick. They are a waste of space but alot of people have to put up with them.:(

    act calm

    don't antagonise them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 794 ✭✭✭ChityWest

I think most people get that kind of crap growing up and at the time its easy to lose any perspective on it.

From personal experience I doubt they are going to stop - the only way they will stop is if when they think that its not worth it - ie even if they can beat you up you will do them some damage in the process.

That will make them think twice. Having said that there is also the risk of getting stabbed so you need to watch yourself. If you have older friends/brothers/neighbours it would be a good idea to let them know too.

you moderated my harmless comment of
they should be put on an island together and let them kill each othe off-sm666
    Ever hear of Australia-Fuzzy

Added to the fact that you told them to fcuk off, in a seemingly abraisive manner... were you trying to show off to someone?
I mean, only a fooslish person would do that. Why not quietly keep your head down and walk right on by?
IMO you brought it on yourself.

Yep the OP could use a little more "life experience" in my opinion.
My only friendly advice I can offer is to not walk around by yourself at night. Try asking your mom to walk with you or drive you.

Sympathises with solitaryman and condemns ntlbell for his silly comments. Wouldn’t have got the gardai involved meself but still no need for some of the pro scumbag comments appearing here. Scumbags are a virus worse than aids, infecting people all over this country at an alarming rate. I hope a cure is found soon.

As someone else mentioned, he may have not hit you had you ignored them and tried to keep walking, you should have at least tried it, by telling him to f*ck off in front of "the lads" making _him_ look bad is the wrong thing to do.

Well he has a bit of a point, though.

I dont live in the nicest of area's and where I go to college means getting a bus which goes through plenty of dodgy areas and walking between them. Now I've been walking around areas and through groups of blokes my whole life and I've never had a problem with them and I dont cross the street to avoid them or anything. Most nights coming home I walk right through the middle of a group or two, never get any hassle.

I find that as you're approaching them, you know they're going to notice you and probably all look at you, look as many of them as you can straight in the eye, acknowledge them but dont engage any of them, just keep walking.

It does also have a fair bit to do with your appearance as well though. I get the feeling Solitary aint exactly a tracksuit wearing guy, not that I am either, but I'm a normal college student looking type, dont wear any grungey/emo crap that scumbags see as a red flag. ;)

I don't see how there could be any other views on this. The guy got shafted by scumbags.

Fuzzy: Like Dave said, you obviously haven't been the victim of anything like this or you wouldn't be all tough guy like that. When you're heavily outnumbered and with your bird, you do your best, but at the end of the day you're gonna get your head kicked in and the reason is that they're bored scum.

Honestly, I reckon in a 1:1, I'm more than capable of holding my own, but when you're 3 or more on one, if you don't f*ck one of them up very quickly and scare the rest off, you're bollixed. End of.

Granted though, telling one of them to f off was going to get you a thump in the head. No questions asked. Next time you tell a scumbag to f*ck off....throw the first punch.

I know he has a point, but he could have put it in a way so as to not patronise anyone who's been unfortunate enough as to have been beaten up the previous night.

I've lived in Tallaght all my life and I've never been the victim of any sporatic acts of violence, for the same reason that you mentioned. If I'm walking through a group of boyos, then I just walk straight ahead, glance into the eyes, pretend not to be at all bothered by their presence, and continue as I normally would (and perhaps through the odd shape ;)). They generally won't try anything if they think they'll get a dig out of it, so just appear as though that's exactly what they'll get!

Although if they did try anything, that's exactly what they'd get! And a few knees in the face for good measure! :D The more unconscious they are the better...

But anyway... OP, it's just a matter of appearing less vulnerable than you are. Corny analogy, but I think it's butterflies that have patterns on their wings to make them look more aggressive/bigger to airborne predators, and so they don't end up getting eaten.

And yeh, telling them to f*ck off wasn't the best thing to do in the situation, probably best to just shake it off and rest assured that they'll probably be in the Garda station before you reach your house.

Personally i think its very easy to say, don't provoke them. More often then not they don't need it to attack someone.

I was walking home a few weeks ago and i saw a group of them sitting around drinking/acting up the usual. I walked past them, didn't say anything, wasn't even looking in their direction and all of a sudden im getting a glass bottle thrown at me.
Bear in mind this was a group of about six big lads and im a 5"4 girl. Its pretty scary to say the least.

I just totally fail to understand the mindset behind people like this, who are just out to hurt people for no reason at all.

Some of them are just scum who need no provocation. End of story.

I'm glad to see all the trolling at the start of the thread has subsided. The way I deal with it is with my mp3 player, you kinda just fall into the background and pass unnoticed. If they ever actually say anything you just pretend you didn't hear them. They are just looking for a reaction to do something.

I don't feel agrivated in any way, in fact I get satisfaction in knowning i'm doing better than they will ever do (and im only 18 :D ) bar them robbing a bank or something.

    err.
I said that he should have kept his head down and not said anything to the scummer, as opposed to telling him to fvck off. The opposite of going all tough guy tbh. :)

    re-read the post. ;)

And I have been the victim of this sort of thing. Came out of them allright, and I'm giving my opinions based on my experiences.

I'm similar, only, I'm never sure if they are saying anything or not, so I really can't hear them. It's quite easy to act like you don't notice if you, well, don't notice.
But yeah, I'd put this particular instance down to appearance, they obviously spotted the guy out as emo-looking, but in general walking straight through them without avoiding/acting unfriendly is the best situation. As a skanger once told me "alot of lads give dirty looks, like."

You mean, on the sly after waving a stick in your face and you telling him to "**** off"? Yes, indeed, unexpected.

But not to appear overly harsh, my personal opinion on knackers is that sterilisation is the way to go.

I walk up a lane past groups of drinking knackbags most days of the week, and sure, a few comments get thrown your way, but nothing you can ignore. And if it gets physical or even just threatening, walking away has worked for me in the past. After all, the ability to use a word like marmalade in every day conversation puts you above knackbags.

Still, since this is the internet, I laugh at your experience and quite happily state my ability to take on any number of scumbags was my girlfriend around.

    Stick and all.

From experience you will find that these guys wont be in the area long.... they will either be banged up or have moved on to knackier pastures...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

i come from a scum infested place myself (tallaght) and this thing happens all the time, i had all sorts of imtimidation tactics before (moped driven at me, bricks thrown etc)
your best bet is to ignore it BUT prepare for the worst, keep your guard up and be vigalant but act ignorant to what is going on. DO NOT tell them to **** off no matter what, act as if they are not there, works for me, never got my head kicked in, but been close, IF they do attack then react accordingly (go ape-sh*t). But do not give them any excuse to attack you (like acting the "hard-man")
as for the titile, yes i think something should be done about them, why should they be allowed to terrorize inocent people and get away with it. But nothing will be dont because of a lack of enforcement of the laws.
bottom line is you have to live with scumbags, know how to protect yourself with out being killed :)

I was amazed when you called the Gardai and they said they were busy. What's the point in a police force if their too lazy to arrest them. Mind you if they were put in jail it would probably make them worser what with being albe to talk with other druggies, robbers, etc.

the cops see this everyday, they couldnt be arsed coming out to investigate something when they know exactly who did it. they are just too many scumbags and too little gards :) we need a "taxi-driver" approach, hehehe..

if you were going to say **** off to some scumbags then you must be willing to deck them straight after, what did you think would happen? the scumbags to say '' Sorry mate didnt mean it'' you should have either kept your mouth shut and kept walking or said something and smacked them. no offense but it looks like you were trying to act hard in front of your girlfriend and got a beating, And don't give me this **** about how you're area is tough, I grow up in a notorious rough area in the south inner city and went to a private school so my accent wasn't as pronounced as some in the area and as a result a lot of scum tried to start on me. as my dad said after he saw me getting bet by a group of scumbags similiar to your situation you either hit the scumbag before he has the chance to hit you or you run, but never say something cheeky unless your ready to back it up

I was in the tallaght police station a while ago about a car thing - and one guy was in there - he had just been cycling home and felt a rip in his leg - some little hard man had slung a fishing hook onto his leg as he cycled past. Then yanked back on the fishing rod.

The attitude of the cops basically boiled down to - if the little knackers are there when we send a car around (not straight away) - we will give them a talking to. The chances of any getting charged are slim, chances of them getting any kind of actual sentence (if they were charged) are slimmer - then if they did get a sentence of any kind they would brag about it to their mates who would actually be impressed.
