Eh, you could do a lot better than Marshall. I'd say a half stack would be perfect for gigging.

Now, I can't advise you on anything yet, not untill you tell me what kind of style you play, what your influences are, is there a particular guitarist who has the kind of sound you'd like? This is all very important for any kind of recommendation, otherwise I could go recommending you a rock amp, when you wanted something for country.

A nice 2x12 combo would be perfect for you imo. What sort of cash are you talking? Maybe something like a Peavey Classic 50 or maybe the Peavey Valve King?

    Ah, well excellent stuff.

I recon you could go for something like this, or if that's a little out of your budget, maybe this. Laney are excellent for classic rock style, and will really do some nice low gain sounds. Match it with something like this, and you should be well sorted.

If Laney aren't your thing, then perhaps an Engl Ritchie Blackmore signiature amp. I'm sure that'll do the classic rock thing no problem.

Erk! Well, I just went way over your budget.

Maybe something like this would be far more suitable.

I had a classic 50 as my last amp. Great amp but it just couldnt nail that thin lizzy or slash sound. Both thin lizzy and slash use marshall as their signature amps. Though to get a decent marshall sound you'll have to spend quite a bit. Not sure what else you could go for but the peavey classic isnt as high gain as you might like. For what its worth I'm looking for the same kind of sound and I've just bought a new Engl Screamer

Well, I've heard some very good things about the Valve King range. I know someone on another board who got the 2x12 combo, and he said once he swapped out the speakers for something decent, it was perfect.

Try one out, and see what you think.

No idea what kind of sound a burstbucker will give you. Try looking up some reviews online, that'll give you an idea.

I'd recommend the Seymour Duncan JB, which is a very well rounded pickup, and excellent for rock.

was told a gd bit bout burstbucker by a mate he said it kinda gives of a 59 les paul sound. im lookin to replace the 490T Alnico magnet humbucker in my sg. im lookin for a more gunsnroses/classic rock sound so maybe the duncan would be a better option in general.
