Has anyone succesfully got Messenger:Mac working on the college network? I know the Windows version works fine, but what do you have to do on a Mac? Is it the proxy settings that need changing?

    Many thanks.

Used to work through port 8002, but that let me down a while ago. Then, you could use it if you routed it through Netsoc rather than directly through proxy*.tcd.ie (i.e. a virtual SOCKS proxy). The last MSN upgrade appeared to kill that on me, so now I use Adium (one of the universal messengers) through Netsoc instead. An alternative solution for Adium etc is to use Authoxy; instructions on how to set this up are on the 'skype' section of the ISS webpage.

Thanks guys. I will try that out when I get back up on Tuesday. Webmessenger apparently isn't supported by my browser.

Hmmm. It tells you that, but sometimes it works anyway, try log in and see what happens.

If you're using Safari, v.2 works (sometimes). E-messenger (www.e-messenger.net) is an alternative.

You could also download Camino (Mozilla-based) or Firefox, which definitely work for webmsn. And are quite nice browsers too, if not as well integrated with OS X.
