Digital TV Celbridge

    Hi,
I have bought an apartment in Primrose Gate in Celbridge. I want to get in Digital TV and Broadband and would like if anyone could give me an idea of my options.
My preference would have been to get Sky Digital without connecting up the landline ( a local provider said he would set up Sky this way as a once off favour) and to get wireless broadband. But it appears to be very hard to get wireless broadband in Celbridge.
Would I be better off connecting up the landline (if so which provider should I go to and what is the process) and getting broadband and Sky Digital through that source? Bearing in mind I do not intend to use the landline for phone calls as I use the mobile.
I would be obliged if anyone could give me advice in this regard especially if you live out Celbridge way and/or have come across these issues.

You pay 37.50 Euro to avoid landline for new Sky Install, You own all the equipment (1 year no quibble warrenty) and when/if you cancel after a year you still get all the Free TV & Radio (inc all BBC and ITV). It is not a question of "favours".

Unless you are getting Chorus /NTL digital Cable there is no virtue in combining Broadband and TV. Despite what some ADSL suppliers suggest they are mostly quite separate technology.

Contact the Wireless providers direct if you want wireless. BT adsl is good value.
    See here for Broadband suppliers.
    http://www.broadband.gov.ie/bbinfo/home.aspx

There is no g'tee that getting a phone line actuallly results in being able to get Broadband.

Again, regard getting TV and Broadband as separate issues as currently only NTL/Chorus Digital Cable offers a true TV package with Broadband. Magent's IPTV package is very limited (30 ch compared with 100+ NTL/Chorus, or 800+ Sky) and much lower quality than Satellite.

You can also get a FTA non-subscription Satellite system and have at least 45+ decent TV and 30+ decent Radio out of 200+ Free TV and 70+ Free Radio. Though getting Sky on two mix packs (10.75 first 3 months, 22 Euro after) and cancelling after a year can be a good way to get a FTA system, unless you want a motorised FTA (Sky Digibox does not work with a motor). A motorised system (80cm to 110cm dish) gives about 20 to 23 Satellite positions with over 1000 Free radio and 1300+ Free TV. Totally legal and free.

Some wireless broadband systems are as good as adsl on phone line. Others are barely better than dialup, but work out very much cheaper. ADSL comes in two flavours:
    1) Eircom or any other company reselling Eircom BB. This can be like BT offering calls, line rental and BB much cheaper than Eircom.

    2) LLU. The phone Line is transferred to Smart, Magnet, or even possibly BT. It may be a bit more expensive than the cheapest package in (1), but up to 3 times faster BB with perhaps no Cap (download/upload limit) to the simlar price package on (1). If you want 4M to 8M BB this is best route.

Wireless BB varies from 200K (0.2M) to 3M depending on Supplier. Metro Wireless from Digiweb includes a phone connection by wireless with no line rental.

Ensure that you compare all costs (NTL require a basic Analog TV sub, ADSL requires a line rental).

In some cases paying a year in advance may give free install and a significant discount.

You would be well advised to stay away from wireless broadband if you can get ADSL. Wireless is not really any cheaper than ADSL and the quality can be very patchy.

I think when it's all said and done, getting Sky's free install/equipment package for a year's sub is the way to go. After the year is up, you can do what you want with it.

Hi I've been reading about Wimax and would love to have it in Primrose gate to replace the current broadworks solution which is unreliable and slow. Note , I do not work work for wimax, just want to spread the word because the more people who register on their site from our area, the quicker we will get coverage!

    Hey Guys,

Does anyone in Celbridge have UPC's HD service ?

I checked the online service on the UPC website and it says that tv, broadband and phone is available, but not HD.

I've read various other threads on HD availability and alot of people mention that if you can recieve the three services mentioned above, then you should have no issue getting HD Tv and you should call then to see.

Has anyone in Celbridge been able to get HD Tv from UPC yet ?

    Thanks !

whatever u do dont go for wimax
i got the 3mb deal, the lads came and drilled holes through our walls and put a big box on our roof.this wasnt a problem as we were getting up to 600kb/s download speeds. until the 4th week the download speed dropped to 30kb/s
this made it impossible 2 download or watch youtube videos or play games And took ages to load up small websites such as boards.ie in which i was able to load instantly before.

we rang up wimax and they pretty much said that intel upgraded somthing in there servers and that wimax were going 2 disconnect us as they cannot provide there services.

we just told them that we cant go throught xmas with no broadband and they said we still have to pay full price until we decide to get disconnected but at least they said we could get our connection fee back but it was a waste of time and money having to pay for the sattelite box on our roof.

just stay away from that providor i suggest vodafone as i heard good thinds about them

also stay away from 3 mobile broadband as they are slow and the bandwidth runs out so fast its unbeliveable

    Fixed WiMax is good

Imagine Wimax is about x8 poorer. It's not Broadband, nor "Fixed WiMax". Avoid.

The €37.50 no landline charge for Sky is waived in Ireland at the moment,a few retailers are still charging it even though they shouldn't.Some of the call centre staff(In UK) believe it's still in place.
