Ring of Truth Soapbox - Fight 2: Karl Roche vs. Mark Brophy

Karl ‘'The Mutton Chop Murderer" Roche (SBG Northside) v Mark Brophy (UL) HW

This is going to be an exciting heavyweight matchup, but I predict that the "Mutton Chop Murderer" will take this one. Coming from a strong Taekwondo background (he kicks like a mule) and training with SBG Northside Karl Roche is a terror.

He's proven himself by winning the 2005 MMA league Heavyweight division, and I think Ring of Truth 4 will see his first vicory with full rules.

My prediction? Roche by ref stoppage in the first round.

Karl kicks like a very angry mule!.

I have some photos of us sparring, but it would be unfair of me to post them here as it was last summer and his conditioning now is way, way better.

    Any opinions on Mark?.

Sorry Clive but I have to disagree I think the UL Kickboxing standout, Mark Brophy is going to take this one.
My reasons are many, but top of the list is that although Karl was the well deserved winner of MMA League 2005 Heavyweight division, his only loss was to Mark by choke at the Revelations event in Dublin. Now I know what Mark's detractors will say to that, "there was no head shots its a totally different game with full rules", and I agree it is, but I think it will be a different game to Mark's advantage, he comes from a good striking stable in UL Kickboxing coached by the holder of the fastest knockout record in the UFR, 'Ten Second' Tim Murphy, and I reckon when it comes to the stand up war the edge will go to Mark as well.

My call on this one is, Mark Brophy by submission midway into the second round.

There should be laws against people kicking like mules. :(

Mark, I beg to differ. But if Mr.Brophy wins it won't be by submission. But having said that, I don't know anything about Brophy's style, just going on sparring with Karl and seeing his ever improving game over the last 18 months.

This will be a good one alright !!

I've trained with Karl & saw Mark fight at the MMA League in Galway.

My money's on Karl, he's just so strong, sometimes he uses strength over technique so he might run out of gas if the fight last long.

If Mark's trys to stand toe to toe & trade blows, he'll be on his butt very fast !!! (Easier said than done)

He'll have to close the gap asap & wear Karl down grappling with better technique.

Look forward to seeing this fight.

Have you not come over to Donaghmede?. I haven't been training in six weeks due to work commitements, but the classes are going well over here.

Btw, we must have met in Finglas!.

Should be another good fight, but I'm confident of Mark pulling out the win. As mentioned, he was beaten Karl once already and Mark is probably the most technical heavyweight I've ever trained with.

I'm going to echo Tim words and go for Mark to win with a sub.
I remember Karl at the MMA League very strong but I think Mark has the superior grappling techniques
    Should be a good one

I was thinking the same thing "we must have met in Finglas" when I saw your post. I wouldn't have been up every week but I'd say we've probably rolled a few times.

    Who are you ?

I haven't been down to Donaghmede yet, I've been nursing an elbow injury that doesn't want to get better for a few months but it's starting to get better so might be down soon.......missing the training like crazy.

SBG Northside was based in Euphoria Gym in Finglas, but now they've moved to Trinity Sports Club in Donaghmede.

Lazy, I viewed your website. I don't recognise you at all, sorry. Excellent website, well worth viewing.

Hope the elbow gets better soon.

    Back to the thread.

Its a pity this one has no head shots on the ground, that would have made this a cracker. Although I don't know Mr.Brophy I have to go with Karl as he's a mate, lol.

    :( I thought I was unforgetable !

Glad you liked the website, you're the first bit of feedback I've had.

I only put it up last week, it's still a work in progress.

Fairly split opinions on this one! Looks like it could come down to who can control things in the clinch - but with Karl training with Andy Ryan in SBG Northside, I'm not going to bet against him!
