OK, here goes. I'll explain some of my choices, reasons requirements etc at the end.

Here's the spec of a home build I'm planning to get parts for from Komplett.

Case: APlus CaseX Clio 2 Side Door w/250mm fan Midi Tower (without PSU)
    PSU: Seasonic S12 Powersupply 430W, 120mm Fan, 2xSATA, ATX/EPS, 20/24pin
Mobo: Sapphire Radeon Xpress 200P RX480A59-A58X
RAM: Corsair TWINX 2048-3200C2 DDR DIMM 2048MB kit w/two matched CMX1024-3200C2 DIMMS
    Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA 2 16MB 7200 RPM
    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2Ghz Socket 939 1MB Boxed w/Fan
XFX GeForce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express, TV-Out, Extreme Gamers Edition, Retail.
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
Two DVD Rewriters: LG DVD+-RW burner GSA-4167RBB 16x Dual, Black, OEM

I went for AMD because all the people I know who know more about processors than I do say AMD pwns, at the moment anyway. So I take their word for now.
I require Maxtor compatibility which is one of the 2 reasons I picked the mobo I did
That it has 5 PCI expension slots and Sound/LAN onboard is the other.
I see myself using this computer in 6 years time (with upgrades of course) so I didn't want to risk the mobo et. al. by putting it behind a crappo PSU like NorthQ, which didn't fare well in some benchmarks I read, and someone on another thread reccommended Seasonic among others.

I'm not sure about the Graphics card though, I want to get good game performance but I don't want to spend more than €200 on a card either. Is Radeon generally better than GeForce or does it make that much difference?

I also didn't want to splash out on a case now because I might go for an expensive modders case next year.

Is the mobo/processor combo any good for overclocking? Say if I wanted to ramp it up to 2.4 Ghz in a couple of years time.

I wouldn't say you will have to worry about overclocking, in a few years time fasters cpu's with the same socket will be alot cheaper (eg fx-60), you may even decide to go dual core which I personally would do right now.

nForce 4 chipsets from what I've heard and read have trouble with Maxtor Hard drives and had some trouble with some SoundBlaster Audigy cards. Asus boards, from my research, seemed to have the worst issues.

I've always found Maxtor drives to give me the most bang for my €. I'm also carrying over an 80GB Maxtor from my exsting PC. That and the fact that the board I'm looking at is cheap, doesnt use an nForce chip and has a bunch of stuff on-board (sound, lan, usb interfaces) and 5 PCI slots, 1 PCIEx1 and 1 PCIEx16 makes the mobo one of the few things I'm certain of.
