Ryanair very kindly putting on extra flights for heineken cup final in may - isnt the game in Cardiff - yet Ryanair flights are to Bristol

anyways the cheapest return flight from Dub to Bristol with RYANAIR (the LOW fares airline- except for Rugby matches) is 180 with taxes and the most expensive is 420 euro
Would you be prepared to pay that price and then have to get to Cardiff?

I was quoted €379, for a one day in and out flight of Cardiff, & bus transfer to the stadium. Needless to say I'm making my own arrangements;)

Also possible to fly to London and train down to cardiff, it's only a couple of hours....

Fly to heathrow, Railair.com bus to reading (~ £16 & 40mins) and then and advance train ticket to cardiff (~ £30 & 90mins).

Fly to gatwick, train to Reading (~ £25 & 75mins) and same train to cardiff as above.

*Check the train fares first though!

Hint: Look at hiring a car for the W/E, especially if you are 3 or more travellers

Booked our flights back in December for EUR 140 return - Dublin to Cardiff return on Ryanair. . .it doesnt help that Air Wales are now not flying the route.

Either fly to London and train it or fly from Belfast to Cardiff direct on BMI Baby. .

As for accomm - got 2 double rooms in the Cardiff IBIS in Dec - your best bet now is Bath or Bristol.

    C'mon Leinster !!!!!!!

I saw in the Metro this morning that Ryanair will be offering 1,000, multiplied by the number of points Munster win by, flights to Cardiff.

Obviously Munster have to win for this to happen so I presume Mr. O'Leary doesn't have too much confidence in Munster winning on Sunday!

well, seems he has to put up 24,000 free (*) tickets from shannon then tomorrow

(*) free - probably doesnt include taxes, charges, wheelchair levies, credit card booking fees, insurance fee etc

A mate of mine bought tickets for the final the day after Leinster and Munster got through to the semi, but even at that stage Ryanair had upped the cost of flights. He's flying to East Midlands at normal Ryanair prices and has hired a car to drive down to Cardiff. Bit of a long way around, but just thought I'd mention it as an alternative if anyone was prepared to go for it.

Personally I've no interest in rugby, but I was really pissed off to see that the Championship playoff final is on the day after the rugby final. If Leeds managed to get through I would have definitely gone over, but there's no way I'm paying that sort of money just to go to Cardiff. Had a look at the ferry too, but wasn't much better as trains don't seem to be great at the weekend so I'd have to shell out to take the car over.

    RYANAIR ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF
    DUBLIN – CARDIFF ROUTE

Ryanair, Europe’s leading low fares airline, today announced the cessation of its service from Dublin to Cardiff and the transfer of these services to Bristol International Airport with effect from Monday next, 1st May. Ryanair’s five year agreement with Cardiff Airport was due for renewal on that date but the airport has insisted on increasing its passenger charges by over 350%. In addition, the airport has reneged on elements of its current contract and is attempting to force Ryanair to pay extra charges for services which were covered under that contract.

Announcing the decision Ryanair’s Deputy Chief Executive, Michael Cawley, said,

“Cardiff Airport is pricing itself out of the low fares market. Cost increases of the order of 350% belong to an era when the lowest air fare from Ireland to the UK was €250. Ryanair has a wide choice of competitive airports available to it and, with effect from Monday next, 1st May, we will be transferring these services to Bristol International Airport. For those flights up to the 10th May Ryanair will provide coach services between the two airports.

In addition we will be offering refunds to any passengers who have already booked on these Cardiff flights and who don’t wish to travel to Bristol. We very much regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers but we are not prepared to tolerate these levels of cost increases on their behalf from airports whose only interest seems to be to gouge passengers with extortionate price increases. ”
