Missing Hotbird channels

    Hi All,

I live in Clondalkin and have been trying to set up my own satellite system (FTA receiver, Triax quad LNB, 80cm dish) to watch 12207 H 27500 (Hotbird). I can pick up all vertical channels (very strong signal) and some horizontal channels (10xxx, 11xxx but not any 12xxxMHz). My receiver works fine in my friend's house. I had been able to watch 12207 H for a couple of days last week but it was then gone. I spent hours last Sunday trying to re-align the dish (which is in my back garden and about 2m from the ground) but couldn't find the channel. The questions I'd like to ask are:

    - Is the dish not in an ideal position to receive horizontal channels?
    - Is there something wrong with the LNB?
    - Or is it due to poor cable connection?
(I set elevation angle at 26.5 - is that the right value for getting Hotbird in Dublin?)

Your help, advice,...will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Is there anything obstructing the line of sight to your dish like a wall or hedge, how solid is your dish mounted, like you say you might have a problem with your cable connections or lnb
I set up a 80 cm dish in Gorey last week for Thai tv on same frequency as you just mentioned so the tp has not changed what channels are you looking for in paticular.

If high channels are missing you may have a faulty 22KHz generator on receiver or a faulty LNB. Unlikely to be path / alignment

Have you scanned fro channels or are you just using the pre-programmed list?
If are just using the pre-programmed list are you sure it's the right list for the sat you are aligned to?

It's possible that you have selected the wrong sat channel list on your receiver and are only getting channels where the frequencies match the sat you are aligned to, not the one you think you are aligned to.

Scaller, Watty - Thank you for your quick replies. I am looking for Arrirang TV (South Korea) - which I know is still broadcast at 12207H. The dish doesn't have a clear view of the satellite as there are houses as close as 30-35m. My receiver can pick up ArrirangTV and all other high horizontal channels when I connected it to my friend's dish - so I reckon nothing wrong with it. So I think the solution would be getting the LNB checked and replaced if necessary.

Hagar: I am pretty sure I have the right sat - all vertical channels matches the Lyngsat list.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not insulting your intelligence, I did that myself and it had me puzzled for a whole bloody night before I copped on.:D

    /Edit how's your skew alignment?

No problem with Arriang here, Watch it often.

    Sounds like LNB problem
