    hello

I know it's a bit of a drag looking at other peoples holiday pics.....but I'm going to post some anyway! :p

Was in Portugal last week - speand most of the time in the Algrave, but went to Lisbon for a couple of days to see what it was like.

Algarve this time of year is VERY quiet, suited us fine. Temperatures in the low-mid 20s. Mugs of lager for €1.20 - NICE.

Lisbon may be one of the most authentic looking cities I've been to in quite a while. No mix of old an new, seems everything is just old.

    anyhow, some snaps :

Think this is called Albufera Beach

I’m a big fan of industrial-type photography and I really
like the “port street c” picture with the plane and bridge.

I also like the crop of the first “tag from Lisbon”.

Your second picture of the beach totally deceived me at first
in that when I looked at it first I thought it was just a close
up of a small wave hitting the sand……
    …….then I saw the person walking…….

    hi Shiny

ya, the one of the airplane/bridge/water tower kind of stands out as the odd one in the bunch. I really like the contrasting shapes and how the verticals kind of land the eye up on the plane, lucky to get the plane into the shot really. Glad you liked it.

the second beach shot was taken form a cliff about 100 ft above or so. I needed at least one person in the shot to reflect the perspective, as you noticed. I also like the feeling of isolation if gives to the photo.

the first tags shot would have been much better if I had of gotten just a bit more to the left and didnt cut off the door frame.....oh well, the second was taken from quite close using a 105mm

    thank for the comments.

Love the second one - the wave lines draw you towards the photo.

Did you do much colour improvements on any of these, flowers in particular?

    thanks Slumped

flower shots didnt really get much PP, just basic processing from RAW and sharpening. The beach shots on the other hand got a good dose of saturation/colour adjusting in PS..maybe a touch too much really.

Yeah, the second one is the best in my opinion, it makes me want to be there.

    Hi,

I like your shots. I was in Lisbon recently and took some shots. I found the tram wires to be really annoying when trying to get a good shot.....

    Nice city though

    cheers

this is the original shot, I decided to crop out the sky to leave it just sea and sand...but .....not sure if it was the right decision??

    what ye think?

Great shots eas , nice eye and nice framing , yes the crop was the right thing to do , amazing how removing the sky totally changes the mood of the picture.

I like the beach and sea shots most. Do you manage to get any photos of the trams in Lisbon as I think they are very photogenic.

    thanks joolsveer.

a patient man would have waited for trams...:) A tram or two in the street shots have would have made them much better.

Well done, keep it up. The flowers are great, so much detail. I liked the original beach one rather than it cropped. Good job once again.

Good work eas! The composition, exposure and PP are excellent. They give a nice feel for the place and would give me the urge to visit.

    The cropped version. Definitely :)

Lol, gonna have to go with uncropped, it gives a much better sense of scale, wheras when you first look at the cropped one, without seeing the figure walking accross it, you think "Oh, it's just a wave". When you see the sky, you think, sh*t, that's taken from a fair height!

Some of the shots from Lisbon are very similar to Prague, if the trams look like what I think they look like, they are great for photos!

ha - figured I'd get a mixed bag on the cropped or no cropped question..matter of taste I guess. I agree with Fajitas!. I think.

Nice photo's, I especially like the 1st two and last two from Lisbon.

The second is brilliant, very good!

I'd have to disagree fajita, I thought it was a photo of the water flowin back into the sea, like it the first pic, but then i saw the man, and it totally changed the photo.. very very good, the sense of scale is fantastic. Good Crop too. It's the best of the all by a mile. A good few tho, seem over exposed!

Beautiful pictures. I love the beach shots, they put me in a good mood. I have been to the Algarve a few times and your shots have captured the beauty spot on...hence my being in a good mood..which is hard to do first thing in the morning! Sorry if this has been asked before but what gear did you use?

thanks Shrimp - I think I like both versions for different reasons. The cropped version is a nicer "holiday" type photo, but the extra strong horizontal horizon line in the original gives it a stronger graphical appeal.

As far as the overexposure.....I agree. The sky is defiantly blown out in the city shots, but didnt really have any alternative if I wanted to get the details of buildings ect. The first two beach shots too i'd agree. But i think the others are passable.

thanks for the comments r_f_r - These where all taken with a D70. I used a Nikon 18-70mm left at the wide end for the beach shots and most of the city ones. The others are from sigma 105mm macro that I like using for standard as well as macro.
