It's time for the next installment of my "a few..." series :D After "A few to share" and "A few from Greystones" here comes "A few from... the city!"
Last Saturday I was in town and been busy doing some street photograpgy, I ended up with nearly 160 photo's, I had to be ruthless during the selection stage and only kept about 50 or so, still a pretty good score and I was pleasantly surprised with some of the photo's! I used my new Sigma 70-300mm lens for all the pictures and most of them are candid's. I will share my personal top 10 in no particular order up here, if you want to see more I refer to my Flickr profile in my signature below where I have posted all of them. Anyways, enough talk here goes:

great timing on no. 7. Very freaky expression, looks like something you'd see in a 70's horror film

Hey. Love the photos, especially 7 and 5. What the hell was the guy looking at his face was priceless. I've only got really into photograpgy in the past few months and haven't taken pictures like these, do people not get a bit annoyed  at you taking pictures of them?

Thanks! I've only got into photography seriously quite recently as well. I always had an interest in photography and loved taking pictures but never invested in a decent SLR camera untill january this year.
About the pictures... it really depends on the lens you're using, I was using a telephoto lens for these shots (up to 300mm, which becomes a 480mm lens on a dSLR like the Canon 350d) so you can take the photographs from quite far away. Most of the people I took pictures of didn't even realise I was focusing on them. It's weird when you look through the viewfinder and zoom in on them, you have the feeling they notice you but they really don't! People are too busy with their own life and whatever they're doing to be bothered about a camera. Nobody stopped me anyway or asked me what I was doing so far and if they do I tell them the truth and show them the pictures. I can always delete them if they insist. I think the girl in the picture below noticed my camera, but she was walking right into my viewfinder, I just focused and took the shot. She doesn't look to happy, but could be the phonecall as well :) She was like 3 meter's from me when I took the shot.

    11. I think she noticed the camera...

And because I dislike uneven number I might as well make it a top 12:

    12. Looking over her Shoulder...

This last photo, I must admit, was a doubt... I was trying to focus on the girl but instead got the guy behind her. I was about to delete this image but didn't. It turned out alright, but I think it would have been better if I had the focus on the girl though.

If you had shot slightly to the left, it would have made a fantastic shot! Nice all the same though!

First one would be nice with a quick play about with contrast, bring out a few more whites!

Quick question, don't you need a model release form before you can publish these pictures? I know the law is different between countries and was wondering what it is for Ireland?

Great shots BTW, 3 would be great in sepia.

great shots Dimy - they all seem to catch some personality of the subjects one way or another.

I personally like 6 + 9 the best. That guy could double for Ronnie Drew in 6....

nice - you must be pretty busy with your camera with all these sets to show off....

Quick answer: No you don't need a model release form if you're not selling the images to magazines or stock photography sites.

Number 3 is actually a combination of 3 layers, a full color layer, a sepia layer and a B&W "Overlay" layer. I like the effect this creates and you will find this in quite a lot of my pictures.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. Eas: yeah I'm pretty busy with it. I try to get out every moment I can and take pics. Pictures from the "Zoo" meeting should be up later this week, and this weekend I'll be going to Holland and will shoot some pics there as well.

I like your shot of the window girl best. Was it in the Moore Street area?

Oh cool, let me know if they want a print  These guys were excellent "models", they were crossing the road turned around the corner, stopped and took that pose. Was too good to be true :D

Dimy ,I think you're a bit of a natural when it comes to photography.
I like the shots ,how can you use the 300mm without a tripod in the city ?

Thanks :) It's not that difficult really, if you can use quick enough shutter speeds camera shake doesn't show up in the photo's. The pictures of the "Street Band" were the ones where I had to use the slowest shutter speed as it was getting cloudy and they were standing on the "shade side" of the street. The shutter speed was 1/80th, I underexposed the shot by 2 or 3 stops and as I'm shooting RAW I compensated for that in RawShooter. All pictures are at 100 ISO, so could have up the ISO as well to get quicker speeds if needed. Surely you can shoot handheld with your 200mm as well.

It's got no shake ,but it stays at F4 all the way through .
Your 300 lense has a lot more reach than the 200 I have and goes up to 5.6.
In all fairness Dimy ,your getting great shots with that lense .

I will vouch for the lens, class bit of machinery. Great shots Dimy you are going to wear that shutter out! :)
