You bastard! That strat looks really nice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Yeah you can see its in great nick for its age. I'm getting it from the same guy that I got my 78 Les Paul Reborn from (which was excellent btw). I was considering a Lite Ash strat tbh until I saw that for less than the price of the lite ash (granted I'm getting it a bit cheaper. hehe). It has same body/neck but better fit/finish/pickups I imagine since its japanese not korean and also from the standard tokai were putting their guitars out at that time. Also I think I slightly prefer the colour. Metallic blue.... tasty :D

Yup :D The 4th channel is a high gain "heavy lead" aka metal channel. Going by the reviews on HC, a few people seem to prefer them to mesa boogies. I'll stick up sound samples when I get it

    Sweet! :D

I'd say your J Custom would sound ****in amazing through that fourth channel Karl. I'll need to pick up some kind of humbucker equipped guitar for the heavier stuff. Bound to be a bit of squeal cranking up the volume with single coils

    You lucky duck.

    The J Custom I don't even have yet? :(

Seriously though, definetly get a guitar with humbuckers, I really find there's nothing better.

Thought you got a black j custom no? Ok then your stealth would sound great through the 4th channel. lol. Might pick up a s/h cheapish esp or ibanez after the summer. I'm smashed now after that. lol

That is a sweet strat, I think someone's been drooling on the headstock.......

Beautiful. Just like the one on the cover of Texas Flood :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I'm not much of a strat man (sorry Ancient!) but that's beautiful. I was mucho surprised to read it's as old as me, it's in better nick than I am!

Maybe you know already J but SRV played tokai strats for a while back in the day. He appeared on the cover of a tokai catalogue or promo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

    Isn't that what I said? ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

I'm not familiar with texas flood or SRV even tbh. Is he playing a tokai on that particular cover??

    Edit:
Several well known guitarists have played these Tokai replica Strats, the most famous being the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie appears on the cover of Tokai's 1985-1986 Edition of their Electric Guitars catalog. Also, an interesting piece of trivia concerns Stevie's Texas Flood (Epic 1983) album cover photo. It was taken while Stevie was playing a Tokai replica Strat. On the cover, the Tokai logo was removed, however, many music shops sell a poster of that album cover and "Tokai Springy Sound" is clearly visible on the headstock.

Thats interesting about the decal being removed. Theres another famous guitarist who uses tokais but puts a sticker of the word tokai. lol

Yeah, it's a Tokai, though the name is obscured in the painting

You do realise that Ancient1 is going to cry once he learns you don't know your SRV? Seriously.

Ancient1 does not want to read this thread.

Yup I know. lol. The gas for a strat came from pink floyd and also with gilmour releasing a new album. Throw in my love of clapton and hendrix for good measure. So what do you recommend for an essential SRV album to check out first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

All of them dude - and all the live albums and all the live bootlegs, coz that's what SRV was about. You'll never hear the same stuff twice.

And if you push me, GStormcrow, Doc and I will fire up his Docmobile and we'll pay you a visit. Doc will be donning his long coat, of course. :D

Pardon me asking mate, but how much did you pay for it?Ive been looking at the Tokai Strats for quite a while now.Love the colour on this one:D

And on a slightly more sane tangent, I'd say the Live At Montreaux double CD set is a great place to be introduced into the world of SRV ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Or pick up one of his gigs on DVD. You'll wish you never have. ;)

There's a fantastic aged hue off that maple, I must say. Very nice, very nice indeed.

Well the guitar itself was bought on ebay with a final price of €484 + €15 shipping by someone else (have the link here somewhere). They decided then they didnt want it (thank god) so my friend offered it to me.

Total for the Engl Screamer, Strat, z5 pedal board and delivery was €1539

On thomann the screamer is €1035 before delivery and the z5 is €166 before delivery. I paid €1379 for both the screamer and the strat. Got the z5 for an extra €140 and then €20 delivery for the lot.
