This is becoming ridiculus. Few weeks before my exams I can't sleep. Up till 3 or 4 every morning if I'm lucky. Usually awake till 6 or 7. Last week went without any sleep for 38-40 hours and it still persists. Might have to promote myself to fully crazy soon!! Anyone know any gud cures other than alcohol and sleeping pulls? They're my next resort!!

Try meditating - look it up online, it might work for you. Does for me sometimes. If you stick with it.
Assuming it's stress, are you doing anything to relieve that during the day? Lots of exercise?

Lavender works quite well. There's something about the smell that relaxes you.

Believe me, I know what it's like, insomnia's the reason I post with this username!

Sounds like a plan. Might do a little workout at the gym. Try and burn off all that extra energy!! Thanks m8

Seconded. You can get some excleent meditation/hypnosis CDs that you listen to with headphones on and they put you out like a light. Beyond that, a quick technique is to simply close your eyes and concentrarte on nothing but your breathing.

The thing about insomnia, is that you really need to find out the cause. Undeeravtive day? Overactive mind? Someone mentioned lavender already, but there's an oil called Neroli that works very well too. drop on the pillow or t-shirt rim if you're wearing one.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Exercise is supposedly quite good for it, yeh. Hop on the treadmill for a while.

Could you possibly need new mattress and box spring? That was what was giving me insomnia.

Go to the gym...work out or swim...play sport....relax infront of tv for at least an hour before bed sipping hot chocolate/milk, followed by relaxing warm bath/shower....go for a walk with g/f and relax in bed together about an hour before sleep time...read in bed...get up early every day.

If you go a night without sleep stay up...go to bed next day at about 9pm, get up 6am...have an active day, you'll sleep again that night and make sure you keep getting up early (you're a student so early is 8/9am) and stay out of house and have active days.

so for me, main things are:
    1/ up early
    2/ active day
3/ exercise/play sport in evening (but not too late..not after 8)
4/ have at least an hour or 2 to relax before bed infront of tv with warm drink
5/ have relaxing bath or shower
    6/ relax in bed for a while with partner/on phone/watching tv/ on boards.ie/ reading
    7/ doze off

Hey ya slightlycrazy, (3/10,Pighead tends to find that people who refer to themselves as crazy are generally spanners) insomnia used to be a problem for Pighead also.

But once again the brilliance of boards saved the day again.Just click on the link at the bottom of this post, have a quick read (opening paragraph should suffice) and be amazed as you drift into blissful sleep.

I recommend you use a laptop so you can do all this from the comfort of your lovely bed. Sleep tight buddy.

I can also vouch for The Ricky Gervais Show (usually pretty high ranked on iTunes) does it too, although not the first couple of times you hear it because you'll be awake and very much in stitches.
