ebay price column - confused

i dont understand the ebay pricing column. In some cases there is an item with no bids, but there is still a price in the column - is this the minimum that can be bid? - ie the bidding is in lots of this amount? and then if there are bids, is this figure then the figure that the bidding for the item is currently at?

and in some cases there are two prices in the price column, one below the other - am i right in thinking that one of those is a 'buy it now' price, and the other the figure as above?
    thanks.

If there is a price and no bids it is the starting price listed by the seller (costs more to put a price in, you pay more the higher it is).

The seller can also start bidding at 0, but put in a reserve price which must be met. so you will sometimes see bids and "reserve not met" underneath.

Many sellers with high turnover will have a starting bid of say $20 and a buyit now of $22. usually they only get one bidder, some people do not want to hang around and pay the $22 and buy it instantly.

All these extras cost the seller more.

    thanks rubadub

so the seller can put a starting price in - can the seller bid after that? - say if you didnt put in a reserve and you change your mind and decide you dont want it to go for what its looking like going for..

and if he didnt put a reserve, but could put one on at any time before the autcion ends.

Not necessarily, a seller is limited in what they can change in a listing if the item has received bids or there is 12 hours or less to go. See:

The other way, which is frowned upon, is shill bidding where you get your mate to bid a reserve price for you. If they win it you just mark it as paid, you have to pay ebay fees though.
