What noise should a 360 make?

    Howdy,
    Parents bought me an Xbox 360 for my birthday on saturday and its making a noise the same as the original PS2 while running only abit louder. I think its the fan or something, checked with friends and they say, and iv heard their ones, and they are quiet as a mouse. Will I bring it back or is it normal? Thanks for your help guys.

    The 360 is a bit loud. Yours being louder than your friends' could be down to something as simple as the surface you have it mounted on - put it on a big hollow wooden surface and it will resonate through that, put it on a carpeted floor and it won't make as much noise. Then again it could be faulty.

    It should make a noise like... pppphhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

    mine sounds like a hoover, a really loud one :/ it sux

    i think its the dvd drive rather than the fan cuz demos run alot quieter than when u have dvd games in it - runs at 12x constantly with games in the drive and i know for a fact that the samsung drives are quiter than the hitachi ones

    sammy drives are in the latest models

    It will 'break in' after a while and become more quiet. If your 360 is only a bit a louder than your PS2, you either have a quiet 360, or a very loud PS2,

    Yep, it the dvd drive, theres already version 1.1 360's afaik, with the new less nosy dvd drives, and a sticker underneath that says "do not move console while disc is in this drive" :rolleyes:

    I find when it's flat rather than on its' side it makes less noise but yes it is a very noisy console
