    Hi,

I am going to take up running and i was wondering what are the best brand of runners you would recommend for me to buy and how much should I be spending roughly for a good pair. I don't want to get a cheapo pair that will injure my feet.

Ì'd go for asics. Make sure you get the correct type for your feet. Check out asics.com and you will get more info.

even good runners might ruin your feet. Best advice is to find a salesperson who knows what they're talking about.

I've use Asics GT-2100's myself for threadmill and road work, they have a lovely bounce-back feeling :) They retail around 100euro, but Elverys do a half price sale every January.

Asics/New Balance seem to be popular.

Arnotts Summer sale should be on mid-June. I got a pair of runners for half-price. Delighted. Get there early though.

Where in Ireland can you find a sales person who know what they are talking about regarding runners for running?

You'd more than likely need to talk to a rep from Asics/Brooke/NewBalance. Someone who can tell you what kinda foot you have and what runners will work best.

Although I'd say most sales people in Sports shops won't know too much about the specifics.

I got my asics in Running Room in canada and I found their staff to be very knowledgeable. They did a gait analysis for me and I found the runner best suited to make a huge difference. I had a knee problem that running excaserbated and my physio gave me a list of runners that I should be using. Running Room did the rest. Not much help here though I guess.

Mick Dowling Sports World in Dublin 6 is well regarded.

It's a pity that this question didn't come up one week ago. Nike had gait analysis (running style) at Arnotts on Friday and Saturday and the same guy was in a Nike van at the BUPA 10k. In Arnotts he video taped you running on a threadmill and then recommended a shoe.
I now know that I turn my feet out because of a strength imbalance between my inner and outer thigh because of cycling.
