Quick question. I have been using eircom broadband with a laptop via an ethernet connection. Today I got a Wi-Fi card. There is an icon on the bottom right of the screen showing that signal strength is good but I can't connect to the internet. Any ideas?????

I got the card in an eircom shop. It's a DWL-G650+.

Is the wireless facility switched on on the eircom router? your laptop once the wireless card is installed properly will have to scan for the wireless network being broadcast by the router - the default name for the network is afaki eicom xxxxx - when you join this you should be able to access the net.

couple of points once you sort this part out change the default name of the network and set up security on the network - as you will see if you read posts on here there are only too many people out there waiting to 'share' your connection. Try and read up a bit on general introductions to wireless networks. theres loads of stuff on the net for example..........

Read the router and wireless card manuals too!!!!:)

The wireless link is working on the router and the laptop recognises the card. I know that the card is picking up the router becuse it is showing it. However, the card just seems to pick up the internet. Is there a way to set the wi-fi as your primary connection to the internet??
