New HardDrive Problems

    Evening all,
I recently bought a shiny new 250gig hdd as i was running low on space(already have a 250 gig with windows and bits installed). Got it installed and for some reason it has slowed my pc right down, from taking 4-5 minutes to boot from start up to generally being slow at opening programs.
Its an IDE hdd(my other hdd is a 250gig S-ATA), i should also mention that on startup when the pc is going through bootable devices it says that there is an "ide conductor cable missing" or something to that effect. Its an old ide cable im using with the new hdd.
    Anyone shed any light?

the cable is your problem if it is not 100/133 capable (older ones and ones used for cd/dvd drives are not ) this will slow down access time to your hard drive and slow everything else down while windows tries to access it. a new cable should only cost you a few quid

You need an 80 conductor IDE cable. A 40 conductor IDE cable is restricted to ATA33 speed.
