Everyone remembers some of the shows from when they were growing up (Turtles, Fraggle Rock, Jayce & the wheeled warriors) but then there's those you think you must have just made up as a kid till someone else mentions it.

Spent a night not too long ago watching "The Pirates of Darkwater" - didn't realise it really existed till one of my friends started talking about monkeybirds in the pub.

It's probably been covered before but anyone else know of any other shows like this?

Can you remember anymore about that one ? Could be imagining it but I think that one rings a bell.

King Arthur and the Knights of Justice - the one with the football team as Arthurian knights (really bizarre but stereotypical american cartoon)

Was there a space-high cartoon? I've vague memories of it.

There was a history one as well.

But Space was my favourite. The space ship designs were outstandingly brilliant. And there were some great storylines... and how cool was that robot?

It's only on DVD in French, same as Mysterious Cities of Gold.

There is one cartoon that I vaguely remember... about a guy named Blue and he had a flying robot he would travel around on called Surf.

I loved Visionaries, Victor and Hugo and Dungeons and Dragons.

Mysterious Cities of Gold used to freak me out.
I've got a load of eps of Ulysses 31 whihc is quiet good.
and Count Duckula....the amount of tongue in cheek gags in that show.

    Oh and Pole Position

And while we're at it, Rentaghost!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

That cartoon ruled ! I used to love the way their spaceship turned into a phoenix when it went fast enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

The bad guy in Battle of the Planets was actually a hermaphrodite, they changed that bit when it was translated over from Japanese... and they added all that 7 Zark 7 sh*te into it as well.

Victor & Hugo was great. On 4pm on Fridays. I loved that! Caotain Planet too, on Saturday mornings. Then,James Bond Jr. That was huge for a while in my time. The Turtles ,of course, was the big one though. Fridays at 5.30pm. Aah, those were the days. Watched an episode of the newer version of turtles a few weeks back, a load of crap, nothing on the older one.

Rudedog...can't remember if I liked it or not.

Californian Raisins - a band made up of raisins. lol

That Once Upon A Time... Life - I thought that was so cool..not surprising I liked Biology in school. They brought out a plastic human where you collected body parts every week and learnt about them, that was it right?

Yep... I got about 5 issues in... I could never stick with those type of things for very long.

Robotech was one that I really loved as a kid... it didn't talk down to children like Bravestarr and He-man did. And it had running plots and complicated relationships between the characters... oh that love triangle was so cool.

Bravestar, Ulysees, Gummie Bears, The Gnomes, The Racoons (Best Music of all time for that show, give it a listen, it's "run with us" or something), there was also this cartoon with little cute bear like creatures in a little village, these two evil guys and a witch kept kidknapping the princess and to rescue her these totem pole things came to life, if anyone remembers this please tell me the name, cheers. Anybody remember Girl of Tomorrow, shown on The Den, mid 90's ?

Also there was a cartoon about a doctor who lived in a house where he had a weird periscope thing he looked into, there was also a woman who had a load of cats in a tree where she lived. Think he also used to bounce around on a walking stick where the head of it was shaped like a duck ?? pretty sure it was called Doctor something
