Hi, got an interview for a cadetship in the army next week. Has anyone here got any advice or tips for the interview not sure really what to expect and exactly how i should prepare for it. Been looking at the garda forum, not sure though if the interview is similar for the army. Anyway, Any information at all no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

am in the pdf myself... not too sure about the interviews for cadets but what id recommend is show the interview board that your confident.. they'll be looking to see if your a natural leader and if you have led before (ie sports), also if you will have the ability to adapt to military life.. pressure is a big thing and being able to work under pressure so you may be asked to talk about a few situtations where u have been under pressure before so think of a few before you go in... so all i can really think of is...
    (1) Leadership
    (2) Confidence
    (3) Sports
    (4) Education
    (5) Ability to work under Pressure!!

    Good Luck!!

Not throwing a spanner in here but none of that works, the army cadet interview is still based on who you know and what you know, as to be honest 9 out of 10 officers in the army are braindead and come from a long line of nepotistic mornic family members in the army.

Rarely does a good level headed person get in...

That is the reality of the Irish Army

Well from the calibre of officer in the Irish Army I would say very few, from dealing with the Brits etc our officers are wasters... And if you have been oversea's when have you actually seen an officer go out on the ground with the lads unless it is a publicity stunt or there are camera's.

My advice to the lad join a real army and go across the water either stateside or the UK..

    Have to agree there.

I applied to the irish army as an officer. Didn't get in. I've a first class engineering degree and a masters. I was heavily involved in sport throughout my college life.

I applied to the royal engineers: I was ranked 'category 1' and have my RCB briefing coming up. They were delighted to get my application and I'm getting really good feedback from these guys. I feel really let down by my country cos there's nothing I would like more than to be serving under the tri-colour.

Well good luck you are going into a real army compared to this joke here, my only regret was leaving it to join up here...

We have a pro's and con's but the army here is a sectarian, Fianna Fail dominated breeding ground for nepotism, the leadership is lacking and the professional attitude oversea's as Paddy the Pig does not help

When you say heavily involved in sport, what exactly did you do? That seems pretty harsh on you. Good luck with the British Army.Hope it go's well for you.

    To all the idiots

Fifty cadets in class three years ago only ten had ties to army. FACT
If you could not get in to the Irish Army tough your not good enough. Go and serve under Queen we dont want you in our army. Go and take the oath tothe queen you traiter. All Army officers must have degree to serve so they are not braindead!!

Many officers have died overseas while 'on the ground' and what would you know about 'the ground'. Sounds like person who didnt get in!!!

Army Officers with Enlisted personnel serve overseas proudly everyday. All ranks give up their time and loved ones for long periods of time to try and better an unfortunate country.

If you want to get in enough and are good enough to get in you will.

If you want to be a traiter go to the Queen and ask her!!!
