Transferring Course

    Im in JF Spanish/Sociology at the moment, i would like to transfer out of spanish to ANYWHERE else, another TSM subject, Soc Pol, anyhting!
    is it possible to transfer into 2nd year of a course? Has anyone done this?

    jasus its a bit late...after janurary of 1st year its normally a no go, unless there is a compatable course. which i guess sociology if you do enough of might let you into second year? Ask in the dept office

    I did 1st year twice, which was grand, other than having to pay the 3k+ fee which is probably more like 5 now, to repeat.

    At the same time, first year is easy, and if you keep studying, it's important you are interested enough that you really do it well.

    You'd be able to transfer into second year of Sociology and Social Policy if you pass your exams at the end of the year iirc. You'd probably be okay for subjects where first year wasn't really necessary but not for something like another language, where you'd prob have missed too much. But having said that the languages departments in TCD are desperate (except Irish) so you're better off out!
    Myth has probably said all this to you in the PM but get onto your tutor asap and they can get the wheels in motion.

    I changed from SF European Studies to SF Russian and Philosophy at the end of Michaelmas Term that year. I was already doing Russian with ES (although none of the literature) so that wasn't really an issue, but had no experience of Philosophy whatsoever. I went to my tutor first of all but to be honest, she didn't really know what she was doing. So I took it upon myself to hunt down and pester (nicely) the heads of department involved and found some form on the college website for them all to sign. In the end, it was actually a lot less hassle than I would have imagined. But if I'd had the cop to do so, I would probably have gone to the Education Officer to begin with.
