Just found out today that bebo has been blocked on the University of Ulster Network. YAY!!!! I've never been so proud of our computer services guys in our campus at magee, ITS BLOCKED ITS FINALLY BLOCKED

    /me cries with joy

But anyway on to my main question, how many uni's have now blocked bebo, and if bebo is being blocked what other sites does your uni restrict? I know for a fact our uni (magee campus) blocks bebo now, but ive never come across any websites that it has blocked although it does block ftp connections. :D

    "Bebo Las Vegas!"

.. our lab's motto... oh yes, we are a cheerful bunch! :D

Got full access rights in college myself as i'm a student in the BSc (Higher) In Computing in IT Sligo - we need full access rights to download software for our projects etc.

But in IT Sligo.. i know Hotmail and Miniclip is blocked. And i think they're trying to block Bebo.

UCD unfortunately hasn't yet got around to it, but at a rough guess it shouldn't take too long

NCAD hasn't gotten to it yet either... Sooner the better.

Do any colleges or IT's block boards? Or do they just let boards because of the colleges under the education catagory?

None of the JANET network block boards which is pretty much every college in the UK :D

    DIE BEBO DIE!

I wonder when the IC guys in work will get round to blocking it. I must remind them :D

Computer Services in UCD probably wouldn't know how to block it, although the library guys have.

Bebo is blocked in I.T. Carlow!!! Much to the students disappointment :D . I know that there is one computer terminal with access to it in the college. Why? I do not know probably someone found a way to circumnavigate the firewall or whatever the computer technicans use to block sites. But the main user of the computer has absolutely no interest in the cult that is Bebo :p .

Certain Chat and Online Shopping websites have also been blocked that I've come across. The computer students may be able to tell you about others.

The nerdy sys admins love blocking things they can't get involved in, IE anything that involves REAL life friends.

I was at the SRC meeting with the SU yesterday, they have confirmed that Bebo will be filtered after easter on the computers.

    On a side note, what year/course you in? I'm 1st Networks & Systems :)

Bebo was responsible for 10% of network traffic in most colleges. That's an obscene amount of traffic. Of course it was banned.

I hate it. It has got to be the most pointless way of using webspace.

Blocked in waterford IT, thank god.

Although I had to laugh the other day, young Fianna Gael (SP?) or someone or other were trying to sell themselves to the students with the "Bring Back Bebo In WIT !!" tagline. :D

but if you have "REAL life friends" why do you need to clog up the network with traffic to a website so you can interact with them?
Surely you could just go and meet them outside, in "REAL life" instead of hijacking every computer for no good reason.

ye, blocked here in carlow. i dunno where that single computer is that can access it! its blocked all over the library but ppl like meself still get on it by using other methods. no big deal. it was fun when it wasn't blocked coz it gave a sense of community to the college.

either way, the traffic is gonna be generated. either from many different sites or just one. it was silly to block it.

Blocked in dundalk, but people are using them annomous proxy browers to view it.
    Shame on them :(
Perhaps there is some way to destroy bebo completly? It could be considered a public menace and then it would be ok to destroy it.

Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure..

It's blocked here in CIT in the library and open access forum, but apparently you can still access it in some labs.

20% of all statistics are made up on the spot. 47% of people know that.

Ahhh right... how you finding the course?

I'm in BSc. (Higher) In Computing - basically 4th year computing.

You know the lab at the end of the long corridor with "Bsc Computing Students Only" on the door - room B1043? I'm in there practically 12 hours a day! :D

Not blocked in Tipp Inst anyway, and unlikely that it will be... at least in the near future anyway, as the head guy in the Technical/Admin Dept uses it himself.
