Ip Address Question

I have been getting emails from an address I don't recognise, and the name that shows up with the emails is disguised too, as in it shows up as "total stranger".

Anyhow, I was wondering, if I where to pm someone the originating IP address is there any way of finding out who is emailing me, or even getting a location?

If you think this would get a better response in a computer forum then please move it, thank you.

You can try searching the ip on this site, it'll give you a general geographic location, i.e Ireland, France etc...

The person uses a broadband connection which serves Ballycoolin, I have discovered this much, any way I can get even more specific?

P.S Thanks to anyone who has helped me so far, this person isn't harrassing me as such, so I don't want to call the Gardai, but they are playing games with me, and I just want to get to the bottom of it.

Have you tried ignoring them?

IP check is a good free program to reverse check IPs / Host names.

Best is ipnetinfo. An app that will give you details for the IP

check the mail headers and find out the originating IP. When you get the info, check for an abuse email for the ISP.

Sorry-(I'm not very computer smart), but how does one even find out the IP address from an email to begin with? For instance, I use hotmail and nothing shows up but their name and the time sent etc...

there should be an option to view headers
