Slightly Fishy Sales/Marketing Job

I already posted this in the Galway Forum but think it might have a better audience here.

A friend of mine (we'll call her Linda) did an interview yesterday and is back for a second interview wednesday with a company called Orric. They are based near the Augustinian cafe in Galway. Anyway she found them through the advertiser, though I dont think the name Orric was there. Neither is there a likely match in google.

I would like to know if anyone has heard of them. The guy who interviewed her was 22 and there was no sign on the outside of the office, just a typed Orric in the buzzer at the door.

He (the interviewer, we'll call him Jim) said that the company has been in Ireland for 2 years and that they had offices in London. now Linda is a great person and would be great at sales I am sure I am just concerned that the company sounds dodgy, though I cant say exactly why. It sounded from what she said that Jim was really trying to sell the job to Linda. He said that she would be groomed for management and that within 12 months she could be managing a team of 12-15 people. He was also said that there would be no 'Street selling' and that the job would be 60%/40% sales/marketing. Details of the job were very sketchy - 'marketing products for clients such as 'Pixar' and some other know brand that I can recall.

Anyway I really dont want to rain on Linda's parade but the whole thing sounds slightly suspect to me.

    Any opinions/experiences would be appreciated.

a quick check of the CRO (.ie) or companies house (.gov.uk) might help you confirm if its actually a registered company etc

No info to offer on them but in my experience, always trust your instincts.
If something seems a bit off to you, then don't go for it.

Offers that sound too good to be true generally are.

When they specifically say 'No Street Selling' then its definitely door-knocking.
    Here they are:

They certainly don't exist at www.cro.ie

Well, if it's a sales company, the manager will surely be well able to sell a job to an applicant, don't you think? :P

I think i had an interview there before,,,

After they said i had the job and could start immeadiatly, then they basically turned around and said that there would be some door to door selling just to start of with.

Needless to say i left immeadiatly

Just thinking there, she should go for it and see how it works out.

If it turns out that she was misinformed she can always leave!

The position may be a sleazy sales job, but I think it's unfair to assume these people are scumbags/dodgy.

I wonder is this job related to the Gallop Marketing positions?

    -> http://www.staff.ie/jobs/5851.html

    It certainly sounds similar.
