It's the 15th of June, times and prices yet to be confirmed. I for one, absolutely cannot wait. Hopefully see a few boardsies there.

I'm pretty broke and I'm going to a party tonight instead, I'd be hanged if I didn't go. Have a mixed shawarma in my honour.

Aye, their tourbus was burgled or something like that, no passports =/ A gig with Necrophagist headlining is supposedly on the cards though

However, Condemned are now back on the bill, and fingers crossed for AI filling Necrophagist's slot time-wise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

ah dont know if il bother going now, seen obituary before and other bands i dont know any of their stuff :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

I'm very keen to see Alarum, very technical death metal... the sort of thing it's a real experience to see pulled off live :)

Plus, I waited long enough to see Obituary, almost 15 years, so seeing them three times in little over a year is a good thing :D

yeah Alarum are supposed to be amazing!
Condemned and Abaddon Incarnate are absolutely amazing as well, if i had the money i'd go just to check them out, but alas i dont :(

As much as that sucks, I'm kind of relieved that I'm not missing out on them by not going.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Listen to those two Alarum tunes and start feeling a lot less relieved ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

Yeah, it's unfortunate about Necrophagist and Suffocation, but it's still going to be a great gig!

Saw Abaddon supporting Bolt Thrower in Cork a short while ago and they slayed. It'll be great to see them on a larger stage.

The stage times are up on Metalireland for anyone on a tight kebab schedule.

Just got back from Obituary. It was really amazing. They got the sound absolutely perfect when Obituary were playing. It was pretty good for the support bands, was far from perfect though. My favourite of the support bands were Alarum (they're like Atheist, only better) and Abaddon Incarnate. But espescially Alarum - they were simply amazing. When they covered Death, I was saying to my friends how cool it'd be if they covered Atheist... next thing I hear is "This song goes out to all you Atheist fans here..." and then they played Piece Of Time! They were excellent, I have to get some of their stuff.

And Obituary themselves were just amazing. As I said before, the sound was perfect. When Obituary played, they just made the support bands seem absolutely terrible in comparison (even though the support bands were really good). It was an excellent concert.

It's not every day I'm blown away by a band, and as I get older it happens less and less, but yesterday was one of those days. When the guy in the Atheist t-shirt brings out a Steinberger and you laugh excitedly like a giddy schoolgirl at his warm-ups, you know something special is about to happen. When you're left open-mouthed in amazement by a band's first couple of tunes and then they play very accurate covers of Flattening Of Emotions and Piece Of Time before returning to their own material which stands shouder to shoulder with those classics, you know this is a moment to experience, to witness, to say "I was there when..."

Alarum, ladies and gentlemen, blew me away.

Soundest blokes in the world too, geniunely pleasant and humble fellas.

I know other bands played yesterday but, tbh, I could've happily gone home at 9pm, probably should have. Blown away, totally. I'm still ****ing giddy :D

First Death Metal gig - and it was fupping great - Abbadon killed ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Alarum blew me out of the water. I didn't get to stay for Obituary unfortunately, only saw about 25 minutes of their set, had to get the last bus, but I left satisfied by Alarum. I have their latest release here now, and working on getting their other CD, and they are simply the most stonking metal band I've heard in years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭Ancient1

    Wow. Just wow.

Alarum were incredible. I don't know who was playing immediately after them, but Doc and I had to go outside for a while to compose our thoughts again. Mr. Steinberger on the left, Mr. Conklin on the right, an incredible drummer and a fully-utilized 6 string bass - and what a performance.
We witnessed greatness, that's what it was.

Obituary were in top form as usual but I too had to leg it a bit earlier for the last bus. Excellent sound and vibe.

It Wasn't Me & Nosmo - nice to meet both of you guys! :)

[whispers] Dude, it was a Carvin on the right ;) [/whispers]

    Was it? :p

Well, you did introduce me to It Wasn't Me and Nosmo as "this is the guy with the strat problem", so no surprises there. :D

    My bad.

I should've said "they guy with the strat problem amongst other problems" :p

Heh, nice to meet you too man. :) It was mind-blowing, need to keep an eye out for more Alarum gigs.

I was absolutely blown away by Obituary last night. Amazing stuff. Would have liked them to play a tad more of the older stuff but it was great nonetheless.

Also, Alarum were amazing. Quite a big surprise considering the acts that had played before them but a completely welcome one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Sounds like I missed a peach of a gig. At least I got a kebab last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

You did indeed. Garlic and cheese fries on the way home, a time-honoured tradition. :p Would have gotten a kebab, had I time and cash.

I refuse to take part in this sick collective! It was nice to meet the pair of ye.

Very good gig overall, I think some of the lineup were oddly chosen -
Alarum blew me away, and the members that I talked to were dead on. The usual comparisons to Atheist were made, along with murmurings about the time Atheist toured with Cannibal Corpse etc.
Nailed were.. pretty good despite the TBMC wall-of-noise effect.
Condemned were enjoyable but once again I couldn't help but think their potential was wasted on how they ended up sounding.
Abaddon Incarnate (one of my main post-Necrophagist reasons for attending) were absolutely ****ing amazing, I'm glad they got such a long set.
Obituary themselves were damn good as ever, they're a totally solid act, but not exactly diverse. Maybe it's just the ailing brain, but the setlist wasn't vastly different to that of the first gig as far as I remember.

Only saw Condemned, Abaddon Incarnate and Obituary unfortunatly.

Condemned - Seen them before, not my cup of tea, but still pretty alright.Their drummer was excellent too.Their guitarist would have been the saviour of their set if only he had better sound. But, since they were in Abaddon's place( -necrophagist) the sound guy was set for 2 guitarists, so, cant really help that.

Abaddon Incarnate - That was possibly one of the best supports Ive seen, first time seeing abaddon too.Been listening to their stuff for quite a while, absolutley insane stuff.Glad I got to witness them live. That new drummer...omfg...absolutely amazing.Definatly have to catch them in the voodoo with old season in a few weeks time.Far superior to Obituary's set by miles.

Obituary - Poor lads were wrecked from the night before in the foggy so Im told.Shook John's hand after the show, he seemed absolutley knackered.Even on stage I thought I saw tears of exhaustion on John's face.
They really didnt do anything for me, Abaddon stole it for me Im afraid.
The drum solos were the upkeep of their show in all fairness. They were just knackered it would seem.
Defo wouldn't see them a third time though....although....depends on the support!

All in all, Abaddon Incarnate were the best band of the night (from the 3 I saw).

Ah, but Daithai, you missed Alarum. ;)

What was the vocalist for Alarum like? He would be the main reason I haven't fully gotten into the band in a big way. Severly kicking myself now that I missed the gig due to work...:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Pretty damn good, a little gruffer than Kelly Schaefer, but to do what he does while making intense use of a six-string bass is seriously impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭Dathai

Ive a bit of Alarum on nae, makes me smile.Inside and out.
    Excellent stuff.

    Roll on cryptopsy!!
