This looks likely to be the greatest Metal concert ever in Ireland, they were discussing it on the radio (some community show), and a couple of lads must have been well up on it because they confirmed the entire line up and talked about the gates opening at something like 9am or 10am that morning because Bloodsimple are due to go on at Noon.

    I really disagree.

    Megadeth and Pantera in 1991.

greatest metal gig ever? i'm gonna go for a big fat NO right here, considering, for one thing, that less than half the bands playing are metal.
Metallica are usually good live, even if they havent had a good album in over a decade (with the exception of Garage Inc, which to be fair was all covers)
Alice in Chains i cant wait to see, but they are only 3/4s AIC.
    Korn suck.
Stone Sour, i have to say, im really lookin forward to seeing.
A7X, with the possible exception of Bat Country, suck. and i dont care what anyone says, they are NOT a proper metal band. im not saying this makes them any less of a band, im just fed up of people thinkin they're **** heavy. they're not. they're just **** :p
Bloodsimple i honestly dont know, so i cant comment on them.

Does it ? I wouldnt agree in the slightest.

I recall seeing Cyclefly, Therapy?, Slayer, System of a Down, and Tool in one day a few years ago. I'm not even sure if that was the greatest metal gig ever in Ireland, but it was certainly the greatest I've ever been at in Ireland.

it's easy to say know without putting up an alternative...........and a two band bill isn't an alternative......

I'd say it's gotta be there or there abouts, forget about wether you personally like the bands or not, the important thing is that a fairly major Metal event is taking place here and could be the forerunner for something even bigger..........

even though Aiken will probably make a balls of it, it's still an important event and at least with 6/7 bands on the bill the value in the ticket price is better.....

Fair enough - Ozzfest 2002 (as previously mentioned by larryone)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,382 ✭✭✭Motley Crue

ok, I will admit that Ozzfest was an excellent event, but considering that Ozzy Osbourne didnt turn up (which also ruined most peoples chances of seeing Zack Wylde since he performed earlier that day with BLS and most people couldnt even get INTO Ozzfest before that set finished) coupled with the fact that so many good bands on one day (and more than one stage)meant you were fighting the crowds everywhere you went and couldnt see EVERYTHING you wanted.

This event features Stone Sour (containing members of Slipknot), Metallica, Korn, Alice In Chains and Avenged Sevenfold (all of whom are top class concert selling performers and who have all achieved either in the past or at present glories FAR beyond the expectations of the 'so called reporters' who destroy them for being sellouts and disgraces to the genre of 'metal' by experimenting with their sound). Bloodsimple fall in the 'up and coming' bracket, but sufice to say that this event gives you a line up thats actually worth the admission price.

And to the person that listed Cyclefly, a band who couldnt even sellout the downstairs bar in Eamonn Dorrans when tickets went on sale via Ticketmaster for that gig at 12Euro, before listing Drowning Pool with Dave Williams 6weeks before the singers untimely death we're obviously drinking too much beer and inhaling too much smoke that day to realise they missed someone who could have been headlining Ozzfest in a few years if he'd been given the chance at life he so richly deserved.

    Trivium is also rumoured

Can someone show me a definite source the details who is performing on the Metallica bill - or is this all still idle speculation and "what I heard on the radio"

well the bands themselves have not put the Irish date on their myspace or normal websites along with the Donnington dates, with the exception of Trivium.......

still no updates from Aiken except they change the gates time each week.....

so in other words no one knows who is doing support for Metallica - apart from Alice in Chains?

    well done the rumour machine

Bloodsimple have the date up on their website and Stone Sour have put it up on their website. Bloodsimple are however crud as are Avenged 7fold. AIC and Stone Sour are my draw. Metallica I have seen enough of but reckon I'll go anyway. And Best Metal Concert ever my ass!

yep the bands have them all confirmed on their myspace

    www.myspace.com/bloodsimple
    www.myspace.com/avengedsevenfold

also, the download festival is known for bringin most types of metal and rock together, i don't care if they're not really really heavy, at least we're not gettin lost prophets again, or bleedin fightstar who are at the uk one!

I would only want to see stonesour and they will be on stage for what? five minutes? Bah.

Youll see Stone Sour for at least 45minutes, if not an hour, considering that they are the fourth band from the top (which means Bloodsimple and AX7 go on before them) and that Alice In Chains follow them.

It will more then likely be

    Bloodsimple 20mins
    Avenged Sevenfold 35mins
    Stone Sour 45-60mins
    Alice In Chains 60mins to 1hr 20
    KoRn 1hr 30min
    Metallica Headline Performance (2hrs 30mins)

you knwo the way this whole download festival ireland thing is supposed to be going on from the 9th to the 11th...well what the hell is happening on the 10th? are they planning something completely out of the public...maybe the slayer/lamb of god/children of bodom unholy alliance? (PLEASE GOD!!!!!!!!!)

sounds like a fun day out for all the family.
havent heard Stone Sour but Slipknot ripped the place up at the RDS last year and Metallica seemed to have a new lease of life.
60 quid is a good deal.

Ah touché. I did contradict myself a bit as i dont know them. I just wanted BMFV, and now after hearing Trivium's Master of Puppets, them aswell. I can live with SS and Bloodsimple fine. Im just gonna have to pay more money to see BFMV now.

Trivium and BFMV are down for Holland for day before Download begins, so thats why there was speculation of them playin for whoever was askin

Wouldn't surprise me if AIC were 3rd or 4th on, the promoters are probably looking to the youger audience who wouldn't have heard much AIC, which is why the likes of Stone Sour and Avenged would be billed after them. Anyway it'd break the gig up a bit, instead of having to endure hours of new bands which I don't even like.

    According to who ???
Download Donnington hasn't released the schedules yet, they haven't even ordered the bands into days on their website.........and their updates are really really crap this year, two months to the gigs and there's still upwards of 40 bands to be announced, it'll be at least next Tuesday before they do what should already be done and slit the bands into days.....

psilocybe - I noticed that too last night, I'm assuming they are loading the site, or they changed their mind and aren't bothering with one now, though all the bands have Download Festival Dublin on their Tour Dates, so it'd be nice if they bothered with it......

this is an extract from Blabbermouth news today about AIC's us tour kicking off.

"As previously reported, ALICE IN CHAINS have selected William DuVall to sing lead vocals with the group on their upcoming U.S. club tour and subsequent European trek.

so there you go, William DuVall will be the vocalist at the metallica gig.
