look for something like this in the back of your PC you should be able to buy a 56k modem for no more than 15-20 euros
Or look Control Panel->Phone and Modem options and see if theres one listed there

Marx Computers has a standard 56k internal modem for 20 squid. Any computer shop you know of should have them for cheap.

I gave my last 56k modem away for free - and I have seen them in certain stores for a fiver. I definately wouldn't pay 20 quid for one, you could try asking here on boards in the wanted computer hardware - should be able get one no problems. :)

Your computer really should have a modem though, you sure its not actually there? Might just need drivers. Rare to see a computer without a modem of some sort - unless its a newish one that has ethernet only?

see thats the problem i dont know if there is a modem. it was a friends computer. but as i said the computer searched for it i could not find one in system or devices. they had no disks to install drivers. it came originally from a business with a few comps probably linked together.

Is there a phone jack at the back of the comp ,you'll also need a spare PCI slot if you're going to install one

Ah right it prob only has an ethernet port so, I know none of our computers at work have modems either...

Looks like you'll have to install one yourself then, but its really very easy...
