I have very little doubt that Niall and the Ents crew got the cheapest price for the services offered. Would you rather it not go ahead at all? That's what very nearly happened last year (insurance costs being quite excessive).

In saying that I won't be going this year because I can't afford it.

My two cent: regardless of insurance or other costs €74 is alot of money for a concert ticket. The line-up is not very inspired either, to put it politely. Slightly less polite, the trinity ball has always seemed a load of bollox to me, but i hope everyon who goes has a good time...

it is given the lineup... not their fault, just different/higher overheads than a normal gig, but for that ammount of dosh ye'd normally get to see your fav artists.....

It's amazing, almost Orwellian, how they manage to repeatedly trot out that excuse when in the grand scheme of things, the insurance costs are negligible (oh, roughly 3.3264033% of projected total expenditure).

The whole event is a joke. A giant chicken, if you will.

Can anyone explain this bizarre Winter Wonderland theme?

Meh. If the ball were the week after my exams finished i'd be more likely to go, but in past years i've needed days to recover from it (not due to excessive partying, more the very late night at a time of year when i'm tired from studying/cramming).

I've had fun at it, but never really been too concerned about what bands were playing. Although, i do remember seeing a very good set by the Frames in fellow's square one year.

I wonder what percentage of the projected income (ticket sales + sponsorship) is allocated to cover the expense of setting up, and taking down, the stages and tents? That's an expense that doesn't really exist for a concert in the Point, etc. And, how would the ratio of freebie to paid for tickets compare to a comparable sized concert?

there's also the number of people you can pack into the venue to view said concert...economies of scale or that ****e, won't cost you a huge ammount more to have 20,000 people in a field rather than 16/18,000 or something.... but lots more revenue..

Yeah, Bell X1 suck ass. Bar 'tongue'. Saw them earlier on in the year, and left early they were so cack.

I'm going to go. Just because I'm only in Trinity for a year so it's my only chance to go. The only one in that line up I'm looking forward to seeing is Felix The Housecat. Otherwise just going for the laugh.

I'm fairly happy with the lineup actually. We can't expect U2 or my current favourite band, Thrice, to play.

But I would have expected a fellow former-Coláiste Chiaráin man to try get Future Kings of Spain or Bell X1 in! :P

Actualy FKOS would rock, even if DURNS hate them. Give them a call, Niall!

DURNS don't hate them, I quite like them.

There's normally at least one band I like playing but so far nothing. Still going though.

So do I, and I've heard they're pretty good live too. Boo-urns.

In general, I'm not overly impressed with the ball line-up this year, I probably wouldn't be going except I was threatened into promising back in April of 6th year that I'd bring one of my friends with me if she ended up in UCD. I mean, OCS are classic and whatever but very 10 years ago, and there are literally no other bands in the line-up (save the Guns & Roses tribute band, obviously) that I could name a single song by.
