Strange Hobby

Have an unusal hobby, bodypainting. As in painting directly onto the human body. Not cars, not figure painting, actual bodypainting.Unfortunately in this country it seems to be an impossible one to keep up.

The most disheartening bit is when someone comes forward and then changes their mind or cancels at the last minute. Happens more often than not.

At the moment, I'm looking for models to paint for a portfolio, and it's a pain in the arse. Seriosuly. I'm not looking for drop dead gorgeuous women or professionals, anyone with healthy skin, no big tattoos, not too much body hair and that's it. Any age (over 18) either sex, big or small.

If I can't get models i will have to either give up this or emigrate! Anyone out there with suggestions or offers of their body as a canvas? I can't afford to pay professionally but will galdly stump up for a few drinks in return.

Beyond that: what do people think of if? Is it worth persuing or am I wasting my time? Would love to hear everyone's input...

And of course the famous pink flyoyd one!

Caryatnid - Yes, check the signature.

Chrucky - I *REALLY* hope you're not implying what I think you're implying. I'm used to a certain amount of narrow-mindedness and sheer ignorance but you take it beyond all belief.

Hagar - buckets of the stuff... but you're apparently in France...

Ikky Poo.... I'm not surprised that you are disheartened if this is the ignorant attitude you meet with in your search for models!

Most of the posters so far seem to be more positive about bodypainting tho :D I think the links are great and would love to be dressed in your butterfly colours.

Chucky must be very insecure if he thinks that someone who is looking for models is..as he puts it ... a 'nounce'. Can't even get the word right.

Your work shows virtually no nakedness, and the photographs are discreet - so what's the problem. I presume you do your painting in private?

I'd be interested to learn more so pm me - ok?

He wanted a honest view of peoples perceptions, he got one. If he isnt able to accept peoples opinions he shouldnt of asked.

If everyone is so into it and no one has any problems, why do you think he has been having problems finding models? Glad to see you have signed up and offered yourself to be painted. Asking on the internet is one of the worst ways you can do it.

He should turn up outside stadiums, landowne etc and and paint faces there. At least he will earn a bit of money and it a bit of coverage.

I asked for people to give their own impressions... not one person to give everyone's. I certainly don't believe a nonce is what most people's impressions: I'm not offended, but if I wasn't the bodypainter and you'd implied that I'd think it, I would be.

And I've done the facepainting thing for years - the bodypainting developed from it

Does anybody have the artistic skill to body-paint Margaret Thatcher erotically?

Maybe so, but the arty types may be able to give you some info on where to look, or how to look, for models. It may be also of use to ask hairdressers who use people as their portfolio, how they went about it.

As people have said, concerts and the ilk would be a good place to practise, most importantly getting paint that won't wash off easily (I'd hate for it to get smeared off after I spend a few minutes in a mosh pit). And have an "example painting" of stuff that you can fo, such as the logo of the band, etc.

Finally, there are a few places in and around Dublin that does temporary body art, for parties, etc. Usually smaller than most of the pictures in your sig, but you may be able to make some money from your hobby this way.

Thatcher? Why not body paint a black panther? One ready to spring?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 191 ✭✭Diarmiud

Margaret Thatcher is a panther? Brrrrrrrrr!

No! Her spring has already sprung. Body paint a more youthful, sleek, and vibrant panther. Of course, it must have a black coat.
