So unblievably funny! Nobody change anything (i didn't make it but just leave it the way it is!)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/Knocklyon

The Templeogue wikipedia is just plain weird... whoever wrote most of it said that Templeogue people were the first to learn how to watch colour telivision and go shopping in a supermarket. Weird. Anyway read the Knocklyon one.

    Union Jack
All members of the boy-band Union Jack hail from Knocklyon. Unfortunately, the two homicide victims mentioned previously were also members of this band. RIP.
    Grade A stuff :D

I lived in Knocklyon for 7 years and that article is rubbish (most of it anyway). First I ever heard of Black Wednesday. Where did they get that population figure from? Way to low - even for 2002. Half that amount live in Woodstown!!!

Only hours after it gets posted here too... It's all still in the history anyway.

The thing is, although tongue was firmly in cheek most of what was in that article was accurate. There was more to be learnt than the six or seven nonsense facts that exist there now.

Here's a link to the unedited one: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Knocklyon&oldid=46685790

    Bless wikipedia's historical function ;)

    Now I've to read it!

On a serious note, if you were to have edited something similar to the Knocklyon one how would you go about it? The person who edited the knocklyon one just removed anything that sounded like it was supposed to be funny, when in fact at least a quarter of it was accurate information about the area. Do you remove or first research and then remove?

Anyone can edit anything i signed up to do the Shamrock Rovers page, if i were editing something (i edited the Crumlin page) i would research it or only if was dead certain about it, I was born and grew up in Crumlin and reearched it deeply.

I'd advise people to research the topic they are editing/adding to 1st

Ah ok, I misunderstood you then. I thought you said you cleaned up nonsense on wikipedia, like the guy who removed the Knocklyon stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

But he'd be in the same context as me i think, anyone can sign up, you could edit pages, sign up

    Anyone can edit wikipedia.

You don't even have to sign up.

However if you put nonsense in it will get reverted.

    I reverted those edits BTW.

When you edit/revert do you research the topic? Most people who edit and don't sign up are vandels though (my handle is the same as here BTW)

That's pretty much what I was asking. Do you edit anything you suspect to be nonsense or put time in to it to remove the nonsense and keep the fact. This is aimed at Ronoc since it was him who changed them. I understand how Wikipedia works in terms of adding and editing content, i'm asking about your actual intention.

The first warning bell is an IP address and no prior edits.

I look at what I consider to be a good version and follow the edits.

In this case the article had information with no sources, non encyclopedic information, and jokes inserted in it over the course of around 30 edits!
