I'm just ondering if the same law for EU citizens working in Ireland applies to people from Switzerland. My girlfriend is from there and we're trying to sort out a job for her here for the summer.

Anyone know what the law is on this or where I could find out?

    Thanks

Note: the European Economic Area comprises the European Union member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. People coming from Switzerland to work in Ireland do not need a work permit.

I checked that before posting the thread but Switzerland isn't in the EU and it's not one of the other three countries mentions as part of the EEA. That's what was confusing me.

Switzerland is special in that it does not belong to the EU/EEA it has the same benefits as those nations when it comes to employment/travel and health care.

Switzerland is a member [strike](and implementor)[/strike] of the Schengen Treaty. Ironically this actually means that they have more open borders with mainland europe than either us or the UK.

Not quite. If you read the article on your link carefully, you'll see Switzerland hasn't implemented it yet.

Well - I can go and work in Switzerland without a visa, so I'd imagine it works the other way around too, if your girlfriend holds a swiss passport.

My mistake. I had been told by someone who lived out there that they had implemented it so hadn't read the page exhaustively. Original post suitably edited.

Thanks for all the replies. I mailed the oasis website and she gave me the link link as Litcagral posted (thanks for that by the way) but I didn't see Switzerland on it the first time I checked it!
