    Just wondering!

Im only after starting last night, I've got about 350 households to do (like most of us id say..) but Ive only done about 50!

Everyone else in my group (bar one lady who had to pull out) has done way more than me... :o lol

Am I way behind everyone? How many have you done???

    Thanks!

I've called to over 160 houses, haven't even got through one map yet. and have given out about 125 household forms. Have about 10 houses to call back at.
Feel I'm doing okay. But it's rural, so lots of driving.

    Lads,

Who do you apply to to do it? Whats the money like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

wow fair play foggy and tonymontana, how u get so many done so quickly..

i met another enumerator on the streets today, hes done about 80, says no one is home when he calls, ive got the same problem pretty much.

but i up to 140 now...have to hit a block of 90 apartments tomorrow, hope the weather will stay dry...

one of the streets i done this after noon was a nightmare. every second house was flats, id climb up the steps to the front door looking for one doorbell and id find Seven! aaggh! most of them were not in. ah well more to call back to.

oh Matches, Im not sure if they are taking on any more people but check the website www.cso.ie

You're waaaaay too late. You had to apply last year for these positions and they formed panels of people to do the job.

i've got about 320, have called to them all but i have onlyt given out about 110 forms. its an absolute nightmare getting people in apartment blocks. hopefully will pick up this week....

You can always put them in a envelope and fire them thru a letter box after the 2nd callback.

Really? we were told that we had to call 4 times and only then could we stick them through the letterbox. We were also told not to do this till next week & i just wanna get rid of them as soon as i can!

When I did it it was ok to letterbox after the 2nd callback esp where it is nigh on impossible to find them in. These are the same people you will need to drop the free return envelope on collection.

What I did was where you called back to one where you left the form in the letterbox if they ain't in for collection, leave the free envelope so you will get the form back quickly so you can you your final sums and get paid.

If you don't get the forms back quick enough you risk loosing the completion bonus.

Just a quick question as an aside:

We're very rarely home, and when we are, we don't hear the buzzer as we disconnected it. Any of our friends know to ring if they're calling over. Will the census person leave us a form in the letterbox?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Yes, they will leave it after 2 unsucessful attempts.

    first unsuccessful attempt - nothing
second unsuccessful attempt - calling card with enumerator's phone number
third unsuccessful attempt - calling card with enumerator's phone number
fourth unsuccessful attempt - form "Cen 1" and census form

    is what the manual prescribes.

Yes, Slippers is right, this is the correct way to do it. Its a pain but thats the way it is.

Bond007 - things have changed since when you did it, everything is much more particular. We have to get the householders name as we give them the form.

................... ahhh i have 100 left to do.... please let everyone I call to be in this evening.....

We had to get the name too. But if there not home you can't.The manual 4 years ago also said 4 times but our manager told us to ignore that and to drop the form after 2 tries. If you are in a rural area going back 3 or 4 times is simply not practactable esp if it is some hermit at the top of a mountain.

For the person who asked about recruitment. Give it a shot next year!

You will be 3 years early. The next census is in 2010.

Finished today all 400 forms or there about delivered, sigh of relief, anyone else finished, not looking forward to collecting them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Collecting is the real pain and time consuming task. You will be amazed by the answers you will get and the amount of forms that you will have to fill yourself.

have called to all households, still have to deliver about 150 forms... nightmare

hey bond-007 did u do a rural area or an urban area?

I had a very rural area to do, only about 300 do do but it was tough work, esp getting the forms back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭rsta

Hey Bond-007, Yeah I've heard it will be tougher getting the forms back than actually delivering them. I've got a lot of 'flat-land' area in dublin and its a killer to get people in, let alone even answer the door as half the time the doorbells dont work.

some people have been real helpful though, one guy took all the forms for 10 flats in his building, he knew all the tenants names too, very sound of him.

Im going out tomorow and any house/flat that doesnt answer is getting the household form plus a cen1 letter in an envelope in the door.... plus my mobile no.

2011 more likely, its every 5 years, its just the 2001 one was held over for a year because of Foot & Mouth.

I agree this is now the only course of action worth doing. If you don't you will still be at it on Sunday afternoon. You deserve a few days rest before the collection phase.

In the rural set up its holiday homes that may or maybe not in use on the night are the problem, unless you know for sure its safer just to drop a form and CEN1 .
