Does anybody out there know the qualifying ages for the kiddies soccer - e.g. does under7 mean aged 7 or under at the start of the year etc?

You used to have to be under or equal to the age on 1 August, but a few years ago they changed it to 1 January to bring it in line with international (FIFA) standards afaik.
