Looking for good value wood flooring. Not really cheap laminate but

    something half decent.

Anywhere giving 50% off or anything like that.

    Thanks

I got mine in brooks and then got someone i knew to fit it. Brooks in Sandyford were having a sale at the time. It's expensive, cost about 40 yoyos a square yard after tax but worth it and I saved money by getting someone i know fit it as that was relly expensive, got quotes from a few diffeent people and they were charging a fortune. A friend of a freind did it on the cheap.

A friend bought his from northern ireland a saved a good few quid even after delivery. There are a few websites for suppliers in Norn Iron (Northern Ireland) and they might supply a fitter if it was worth their while. labour charges are a fraction of the price up there.

I got semi-solid Beech @ half price from Right price Tiles, laid it myself, it was easy! They always do 1/2 price sales every few months so worth keeping an eye out, they have a few branches off memory.

Guys I can confirm this. My parents were in Carlow last night, and I asked them to stop by for a look. Semisolids were €15, solids were €20-25 per square yard.

They brought back some samples (1 narrow short beam solid, 1 wide beam solid and 1 widebeam semisolid). All looked in great condition (I think they were maple, but I'm not sure).

The place is called Rosies Kitchen (or something like that). I have his name and mobile number at home - I'll post them tomorrow.

I'll be heading there myself next week for a look myself, and I'll be bringing money. This looks like the find of the year.

Big thanks to Wizard for the tip off.

Do you know if these are tung and grove or the click in system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The samples I got were tongue and groove.....

I could be wrong but I think most, if not all, solids and semi-solids would be tongue and groove, I've only ever seen laminate with the click system. thats why Solid/Semi are so expensive to lay.

I have seen it in woddies as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Call him. His number is a few posts above this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 199 ✭✭Wizard

yeah wont be a problem ,
its not a deal, he charges those prices all the time,
he is very cheap on everything,
solid oak for 20 per yard, semi solid is 15,
fireplaces for 500 for wood and a little more for marble or stone,
i got a kind size leather bed from him for 600 including matress,
and if you buy a few things you get extra money off,
    he is a gent,
have never had any trouble from anything i bought from him

I was in Carlow this week and called in.
I was talking to a young lad that looked about 14. They had about 4 or 5 different types of solid flooring.
It was very cheep with the 130mm wide oak and maple for €25 per sq yard and in fairness it looked ok but I felt I could get better quality at nearly the same price closer to home.

Doors and Floors on Naas Rd.

I got semisolid walnut flooring... originally €59 sq metre or yrd (which ever is the common measurement - can't remember) and we paid €23.00 during their sale. Maybe worth checking out to see what they have left. Cheapest place I found by far and the floors look fantastic.

What's the name of this shop? Is it in Carlow town or Tullow?

Going up to Tullow Interiors tomorrow to look at some solid flooring, they have it for €25 sq yard.

Wouldnt mind calling into this place for a look though, anyone got a shop name and directions?

    Thanks guys...

I was down there last Saturday. It's called Rachel's and its in a mini industrial estate just beside the Portlaois roundabout outside Carlow. Think there's a large hardware shop called Doyles (i think) in the same estate.

He had some nice floors going for E25 sq yard. Said he'd negotiate on that aswell so you'd probably get them for E22/E23 sq yard.
He had light maple, dark maple, ash & oak. I'm going for the dark maple myself I think.
