    Hi

I remember reading somewhere that Co Roscommon has the highest incidence of UFO sightings in Ireland. Is this true? Are there any other hot spots?

    Thanks
    A

Well, I cant say that Roscommon is any more special than any other place, but I do remember reading about a special case in Roscommon, where an Unidentified flying object crashed into a lake there.

It was supposedly witnessed by many locals. But here is the strange thing. I heard from a guy who was there at the time, and said that he went up there when it happened, and went so far, before he encountered U.S military soldiers !?!?!?!

They apparently had the area sealed off, and would not allow anyone near the crash site. He said there were US jeeps, and us military personnel all over the place.

I found this pretty hard to believe, but it was substantiated to some degree by locals who had met with US personnel, and even a member of the Gardai, who upon investigating the report of a crahed aircraft, encountered US Military swarming over the area, and was told he could not enter what was a restricted area.

If anyone can verify this it would be great, as its something I have been researching for some time, and have my theories on what might have actually happened.

    Heres one -

The USAF had a new prototype of either -A: A hypersonic spyplane codenamed Aurora, which was flying a regular route from RAF Macrihannish in Scotland, to the test site in Nevada, on a transatlantic route.
After takeoff it crashed in Roscommon, before making it out into the atlantic, so the US Govt gained special presidential clearance to come in and clean up their mess before anyone got to see it.

-B: Much the same, but instead of a hypersonic spyplane, it was a flying triangle called the TR3B, based on an antigravity platform. - not much indisputable fact exists to back this up, so I am looking for anyone who can comment on it.

    thats it from me ..

interesting. I wasn't aware of such an association with roscommon, think I heard something about a crash site alright a few years back but I was never a great believer in ufo stories at the time. I relayed a particular experience (in the experiences thread below) which occured during a journey back from Galway (late 2001 early 2002). We didn't go through roscommon but we weren't too far from the border at the time.
I did a little google and grabbed this from the ufo society of ireland.

I'm not sure whats going on up there, be it supersonic flight testing or what, but its certainly very strange.

Some of the sightings are certainly hypersonic spy planes, a common feature of these types of sightings would be string and doughnut contrails like this:

A sure sign of scram jet or rocket engines.

But many sightings can only be explained by an anti-gravity propulsion system, due to the speed and manoeuverability.

I had a sighting with one of my friends about 10 years ago in Shannon. We just came out of a play that was on in our school, and were walking through a park when we saw it. There was a gap in the clouds, and two things that looked like stars (the were as bright as the stars in the sky, and the same size) were flying about at crazy speeds, one circuling the other, then the other would do the same, they also moved in crazy patterns, they went away to the right and left, and went lightning fast right together, like... how do I describe this, they flew towards each other and just stopped still for about 10 seconds, then they both flew off in opposite directions. They were flying about in the sky for about 5 minutes. It was impressive stuff. I remember other people in the park screaming about it too.

Sounds kind of cool. Although its stories like these that make me believe in the earth lights theory*. If they were alien ships, what possible reason do they have to zoom around in our sky like that?

yeh, heard about this a long time ago, heres a bit of info on the case that might be of use http://www.blather.net/archives/issue1no38.html

There has been a lot of talk about this, from what i've heard from talking to people the area was sealled off by Irish and US military personal for a while and also there where high ranking people in the Irish Politics scene seen the night of the incident! As said before Gardi where told to stay away! The closet town to the incedent site was supposedly overcome with a lot of "American Tourists" the ext few days after the incedent and for a number of weeks after.

    Hope this helps.
