My doctor has referred me to a dermatologist for Roaccutane. I am a bit nervous about this due to the number of scare stories around about this drug. Has anyone ever tried this. Were the side effects worth the end result? Thanks

I know two people who used it and it's amazing how well it works.
Side effects were moodiness and really dry mouth/eyes/nose but obviously a small price to pay for the few months you'll be on the drug.

    It's pretty expensive too.

I had terrible acne as a teenager and I was also referred to a dermatalogist who recommended roaccutane. I was cagey at first but in the end I felt my acne was bad I decided it was worth the risk. I had absolutly none of the side effects listed and my acne healed up amazingly well, not really much acne scarring on my face either. I recommend asking you dermatologist if he thinks you will have much scarring afterwards, if so you may need to get cortisone injections or something after the treatment is finished. Also, I will say this but IT IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION, that I was told not to drink or have any other "substances" while on the drug but when I went to college I was still on roaccutane (I was on it a few months at that stage) and indulged in a little drinking and smoking but as I say NOT RECOMMENDED, especially drinking. I'm just saying I did it and got away with it, I may well have ****ed my liver and not know til I'm an old man.
In short, I definatly recommend Roaccutane. Do make sure that it is right for you though, also take note of all that depression stuff they say comes with it. I felt no more down than I did before and after the drug but everyone is different.
Hope this experience is of some help to you.

I was on RoAccutane for 6 months. Im 2 months off it now. The results are amazing, the drug definately does work, but it takes time, around 5 months for me. My experience was that my acne got worse when I went on it first, but the end result was definately worth the small flare-up. I was never told not to drink by my doctor.I didnt drink that often anyway but I found when I did I got a lot more drunk a lot quicker, so obviously it effects the way the body handles alcohol. I experienced a few other small side-effects like, really dry lips, dry face and dry nose. These were annoying at first but once I used a moisturiser they stopped being a problem. Overall there are a few side effects to RoAccutane while you are taking it but I feel anyway that the few inconveniences over the six months were well worth the result.

I don't know if you are male or female but if the latter, you must not get pregnant while taking roaccutane. One of my female friends had to give an undertaking to abstain from sex during the course of the medicine. It is extremely damaging to unborn children and can cause physical and mental defects. It the treatment worked really well for her but she did have the dry eyes/nose/mouth throughout.

There's plenty more detailed info on the web.
