Howdy all! Was just wonderin if anybody out there had travelled to America to do MMA. I ask because im a student considering doing the J1 this year and would like to somewhere i can train and have a good time aswell. I considered portland for SBG HQ but its isolated and a fair hike from any of the other major cities id like to travel to later. Im lookin for a relaxed area preferably on the east coast at the mo. Any ideas anybody?

I did some BJJ with Phil Migliarese of Balance Studios in Philadelphia, his brother Rick teaches MMA there... Team Balance

They were really nice there, lots of girls doing BJJ too

American Top Team have an amazing camp in florida - amazing facilities and some of the best fighters in the US training there.. I know one or two people there and they absolutely love it. it would work out pretty costly though if you're a student.

Chris Brennan has a pretty cost effective method, its called the "live-in" programme. Dave Jones goes there fairly frequently and I spent 3 months there a few years ago. It was €350 per month for your rent and all the training you could do. Not on the East Cost but in "the O.C."

Oh one other thing, you might be able to find an MMA "Camp" or a BJJ "Camp" but there are definately Martial Arts, Boxing and Wrestling Camps. You could travel over there as a "Camp Counciler" and have garanteed work for the first 6 weeks, flights and accomidation paid for. Then go travelling to all the great gyms around the US.

    Peace

Thanks guys. The NG training looks good. At the moment its all a question of money. I want to travel later on and im gonna need a fat bank balence to do it, unfortunatly America aint as cheap as the third world pack packer holidays and you cant live off 50 Rhuppies a day!. However i may train in as many clubs as i can as i go around.

south shore sport fighting in boston is a great place to train.
i trained there for 2 years and had a great time.
they cover everything in true mma fashion. it is all no gi work. classes are always fun and you can cover whatever you want. you can follow the structured class but if you wanna spar with the guys preparing for a fight then you can do that too.
they are about twenty min south of the city
they run day and night classes and are very reasonably priced.

Gyms are on the up and up here! I'm going to be doing some road trips over the coming weeks.
