Just looked at the M50 upgrade site on www.sdcc.ie and whilst the preparatory works, i.e cutting down of trees etc, are underway construction proper wont start for a while yet. When it does, in July expect massive disruption:rolleyes:

    As regards phase 2:

Present Position: March 06 Tendering process has begun and expressions of interest have been invited. It is anticipated that the tendering process will be completed in April 2007 and construction work will commence shortly thereafter.

That kind of makes sense as the traffic is usually reduced during the summer (maybe not on the M50) when people are on holidays, schools are off et.c but still not going to be fun.

I thought they started a month ago when Martin Cullen announced it and they showed him beside the motorway on the news, don't travel the road anymore :D so I thought it was under way.

Anybody have any information on the sequence of upgrading. Will they do the Mad Cow first and will they build each slipway seperately or will it be 2 years before we can use any of the upgraded sections?

Dunno. The interchange modifications are so extensive that I doubt they can go slip by slip. I guess they'll do cutaways and build as many of the bridge supports as they can, and then gradually shimmy traffic around incrementally. It's going to be like ballet, but with dumper trucks, cranes and cement mixers :). Also, I expect that they'll upgrade Liffey Valley and Red Cow ends in parallel. At least they pretty much tackled the whole of the Naas road in parallel - a similar upgrade except without the spagetti junctions.

I know they are doing preparation work before the commention of construction in July but why would cutting down a couple of trees really take 4 months:mad:

i think that they cut down the trees early as there is some kind of tree preservation order in place between march and august each year?
