    Hi All,

I'm Looking at getting in NTL's MMDS Digital service. Cost is $20 per month (Will increase by €7 in 2006 as the GoDigital Pack is Free until then).

    Has anybody experience of this?
What channels are currently available (as you know NTL hasn't got a detailed website)?
    Any service issues, etc.?

Thanks for your help in advance!!! :)

FYI.... I'm ditching Broadworks (a small cable company that is available in some new estates/development)... They are extremely undependable (channels keep switching and sometimes the Sky Digital EPG pages displayed instead of the channel). Also, sometimes the speech is out of sync (especially bad on CH4).

We ditched this last month for Sky. Given your username, you probably don't want that ;)

The service was bad. Both customer service and the actual service. Not uncommon for channels to dissappear for hours, or sometimes even days, at a time with no explanation. When customer service are phoned, they just do the whole "unplug for 30 seconds to reset the box" routine. That inevitably doesn't work so they book an engineer call for sometime about a week away.

But the problem will inevitably be gone by the time they arrive and it won't be something they can do anything about anyway because it will be a problem at the head end or similar, as one engineer explained to us. They don't seem to like being sent out on these time wasting calls either.

I didn't really realise how bad the picture quality was either until we got Sky in.

The channel line up was getting better. Wasn't so good at first, but they have added to it over the years. Though I'd prefer if they added some real channels instead of adding +1 channels.

The channel line up is on their site
    Basic:

    Digital Choice:
    http://www.ntl.ie/athome/dtv/mmds/choice.html
Though I'm not sure how accurate that is any more. After all, they still show ITV News Channel as being in their package, despite its demise. ITV3 is also on there, but did I hear that was recently taken off too?

About half the channels are available on satellite free. You dont need sky for the free satellite channels anbout 45 decent ones.

    Thanks Kahless and Watty!!!

On the sky front....I agree with what you say...
As for the username, I only hate Sky the company (especially the way they have treated Irish subscribers), not sky the service!!!

My main reasons for not going with sky is:
    - NTL have Setanta Sports for Free
    - The Dish would be located right on the front of my current house...Need to move :-)
    - NTL is relatively good value

However, Sounds like NTL mmds is worse than Corus!!!

NTL MMDS is far better then Chorus (as NTL is all digital) but it wouldn't have as good picture quality as Sky.

    Thanks BK!

Anyone know how the picture quality compares to NTL cable ??

Depends where you live for quality. Some NTL areas have good NTL digital Cable and some seem to be poorer. Chorus Digital MMDS and NTL Digital MMDS only differ in channel line up and will soon be the same.

NOTHING is free on cable/ MMDS. See how much there is if you cancel. Setanta is INCLUDED, not free.

The Cheapest Sky package with Setanta is two mix 21.50 + 15 Euro. All all the really free channels. But I think you can have all the Free channels on Satellite and ONLY sub to Setanta (5 or 6 sports channels) for 15 Euro.

    See
    http://bytelive.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=Free+To+Air+on+Sky

For list of really free channels with NO sub (numbers wrong)

I was wondering why people were saying the NTL has poorer picture. I just moved into a newly built area and my NTL picture is excellent. I have the NTL pace digi box. My mate who lives quite near but in a much older estate thought the picture on my tv was better then his (he with Sky) but I think thats down to him having an (much)older tv.

When i lived in my previous house which we had NTL too we had terrible problems with NTL but since the move they have been perfect and no jumpy screens or missing channels like before. Hope it stays that way ;)
